I'm not having a good Fiero week My brake light came on today. Brakes still work but the pedal goes down alot further than before I checked all my lines and I'm not losing any fluid so I suspect master cylinder or booster time. Any way of telling which so I can order my parts from The Store!

The light comes on either when your e brake handle is up a bit or if there is a pressure imbalance between the front and rear brake lines. It would be very odd for either the M/C or the booster to cause the brake light to come on.

Hey Phil! Thanks for the quick reply. I pulled over when my brake light came on because I did think at first maybe my e-brake was still on but it wasn't. I even operated it when I pulled over...light went out then came back on at the next intersection. Could these frigid temps be wrecking havic with anything? I think it is time for all the old fluid to be drained and the system be bled. Maybe that will fix my prob. Thanks, Marc

Any ideas what would cause this?

You could be losing fluid at the calipers or some other hard to see spot. I would bleed the brakes, fill your reservoir to a "markable level(mark it with a Sharpie)" so that you can be sure if it's losing or not losing fluid, and then wait to see if the problem reoccurs while monitoring your fluid level. If it is losing fluid, then keep looking for the source.

Thanks...I'll try this but I haven't lost ANY fluid! Should I rule out the MC?

Have someone pull hard on the brake cables under the car while you release the hand brake.

The switch on the handbrake isn't on the lever. It's on the metal part that pulls the cables. If the cables are binding, common in cold weather, then the ratchet plate won't return all the way no matter how much you fart with the handle.
