OK, it wasnt an engine or a tranny this time, but still...

Okay Im driving home in the country, first stop sign I come to I ease on the brakes, as soon as my foot touches it, the engine shuts down, radio goes off, and SES illuminates my shock reflex was to take my foot off the brake, and everything powers back up. UGGhh great wonder what that was oh well. Step on brake, everything shuts off again CRAP. But the engine starts back up on its own. Well thats just odd.... As im stopping the wheels start turning. I run through the wiring diagram in my head. Figure about the only thing it can be is a short in the brake light system. I play with it a bit, notice the volt guage acts a little odd, goes up with brake pedal instead of down. I hit the AC and the system shuts off, but resets. Well that kinda changes things. Im thinking as I turn the AC off then on again watching for information. I hit the off button and BOOM the headlights light up like a camera flashbulb then nothing, blackness. Im going 60MPH through the country with no headlights. I slam on the brakes and hit the flashers looking for a driveway. Took me about 10 seconds before it dawned on me to try the high beams. WAHOO!! let there be light. Now an interesting point. The dash lights have never worked in the car, its a secondary car so I never messed with it much, swapped transistor, tried a headlight switch I had laying around, nothing, but now they are on... . Well I engine broke the whole way home as to not to mess with the electrical system. I pull in the driveway and put it in reverse. I notice the volts guage reads a little low. As I rev it comes back up. I back up and park. Turn the key off and click everything shuts down, no lights, headlights stay up.. nothing. So I think GREAT I just blew the whole F'in system.

Now Ive figured it out, but I wanna see if anyone else can. What do you guys think? I'll post the answer tomrrrow

Fuseable link or bad connection at the fuse box.
I've seen GM cars do some really weird-ass things when fuses are blown. As strange as yours is acting, it's gotta be a whole big collection of stuff that's not getting power. Like everything that works on the BATT section of the fuse box?

My guess as well, or you lost a ground and you are back feeding power from your accessory circuit and its killing your car.

Sounds like a classic ground problem. After you check your fuses and fusible links, check the various system ground points ... all of them.

well since when you hit the brake and the engine speed changes it could be a vac leak it the brake booster system. Is your brake pedal hard? . Its sound as if you have multiple problems. Problems with the charging system too....maybe.

Id check all the grounds. And shorts.......power to ground.....

Do you need a second pair of eyes or ears? Im in Akron ohio

BINGO!!!

Some good guesses though. I guess that is why they say never to test the alternater by unhooking the battery, any change in the system will send a nasty voltage spike through the car, enough to blow the headlights, should have killed the ECM

should have killed the ECM

I know that after being in fieros for about a little more than a year, I have aquired about 5 stock ECM's. If you blew one up, I think it would be doing the world a favor.

A: A 2.8L with ~100k on it, runs, sounds like a helocopter
B: A 2.8L with ~187k on it, runs, sounds like a JACKHAMMER, im pretty sure it snapped a rod
