Anybody have any experience with higher stall torque converters? I want to know how streetable a 3000 rpm converter is, and any general advice or tips on what to look for...

yes, dependsing on engine in front of it. I'd expect this would be for a DOHC motor with weak low-end. you want your stall RPM near where you HP curve starts. to far into your power curve, and you may be wasting some RPM range, and slamming your tranny & drive train harder than need be. if this was on a pr 3.4 with stock Fiero intake, you'd only have 2000 rpm of usable power. yay.

Talked with a guy at GM and he put me in touch with Yank convertors. 3000 stall is what they recomended for a street Fiero with a N*, also said to go with a friction lockup disc. Cost you about a grand. We are working on a conversion with this convertor, but don't have it done yet to see how its going to perform.

Excellent. Let me know your results!

I too was referred to Yank, so I guess they're the ones to go to.

Different beast altogether, but I had a Presion Industries Vigalante set at 2800 RPM behind my LT1 topped 350. I could hardly tell the difference.

If you do some research you will find that there is more to it than just stall speed. The size of the converter will make a difference on longevity. Also there are different stator rings that will increase torque multiplication etc. Yank has some interesting info on their website.

I run a Yank 3500 stall speed convertor and I can really tell the difference.I've had it since 2001 and have put on over 15000 miles on the street and many 11 second runs on the strip with no problems. You should have a trans cooler on it though as it does produce more heat than a stock convertor from the slippage of the stall convertor and will lose a litte top end torque but it will really make a difference.
