I know this is off the subject but does anyone know how to reset the check engine light on a 1998 Cevvy Silverado? Thanks in advance.

OBDII has to be reset with a scan tool. Take it to Auto Zone. They'll read the code for free. They might reset it for you, too.
You might be able to reset it by disconnecting the battery for at least 30 minutes, but I'm not sure. I vaguely remember hearing that before, but it may not have been on OBDII.

According to Mitchell you either remove all ECM power for 30-60 seconds or use a scanner to clear the codes.

Usualy about 5 seconds will do it. But I usualy leave it off for about 30 just for the heck of it. That should clear it, but it will probably come right back on. Dont rely on what autozone says the code means. If you look at alldata there are usualy 3 to 4 pages of troubleshooting steps to go through after you get the code to determine what is causing it. Some easy ones are simple, but most of them aernt. For instance an O2 code can be cause by a faulty EGR valve bleeding exaust in, and causing the engine to be lean. Or a pinole exaust leak right before the sensor can trip a bad sensor code too.

Check and see what the code is and let us know.

Thanks guys, I borrowed a scan tool from a mechanic buddy of mine. Turns out the truck was warmed up for to long and the heat sensor got warm. What a joke. This is Canada, you don't drive yer truck 'til it's warmed up ... in side at least.

if the problem is truely gone the light will go away on it's own after 3 "trips" without a failure. a "trip" means all the conditions were met for the PCM to run the test it ran to set the code. (it may take a while for you to run the tests becuase some of the conditions are not in your usual driving.)
