Thinking of adding a cold air induction setup on a 87gt and a 86se 4 cyl . My 87gt with an automatic gets an average of 18 mpg combined and 22 highway and the 86se 4cyl/5spd gets 29 combined and 35-37 highway.Does the induction setup really increase the gas mileage and horsepower? I recently read a thread here on air cleaners and from what I could tell the gm brand is as good as or better then most aftermarkets. Did I read it right? Just trying to save some money.

Fieros already have a very efficient cold air intake system directly from the factory

Phil's right; (no surprise...!) side of the car, away from engine heat. Good spot.

Now, if you want a good WARM air induction system, get one of those stubby air cleaners that sit in the engine compartment, right over the exhaust system! Toasty-warm!

Thanks for the input....never really thought about the side vent. I guess I'll spend my money on something else for the fiero.

Lol, I cant say ive ever seen a true "cold air induction" system in person(outside of fiero's). They all suck air from the engine compartment, the only diffrence is they have a red filter and a shiny pipe. Some are even advertized as "cool" as opposed to cold because they suck from the engine bay.

The only limitations you might encounter with the fiero is a restriction if you can cram a big enough engine in there

Break out the rain barrier just inside the vent from the outside for increased air flow
