Okay, so I got a Service Engine Soon Light on my 86 Sport 4cyl auto. I browse the information here on the Forum and find that I insert a wire into these two connections on the ALDL plug behind the cigarette lighter housing:

The only problem is that on my 86 Sport, there is no connection in the "B" hole. It's like this:

(A red box means that there is a copper connection inside the hole)

I checked on my 87 GT and it looks like this:

I don't know how to get the code number because my ALDL connector is different than the diagram here on the forum. Any body know how I should hook up the jumper?

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Are you sure it looks like that? Notice the key or tab at the top of the housing? In some Fieros the housing may have been flipped over. I think that may be the case in your car. The two terminals are by themselves, away from other wires, but next to each other. Here is what it should look like.

Credit for the picture goes to Jazzman.

It seems that any fiero could have a "flipped" diag connector, so basicly you have to look for the the B and A arranged in either the top right or the lower left. My 88 is like your 86 is, and your 87 is like my firends 86. If you look at the picture in Avengador1's post it is aligned the way your 86 is.

When in doubt, just get your multi meter out and find and test connectors till you find 5 volts (at the moment on my 88 it reads 3 volts, but I think somthing is screwed up, lol)

Dito the last post, otherwise there are a couple other ALDL connectors out there for cars from other counties but the connectors are different.

Unless someone has removed the wires from the ALDL connector and installed them back in differently (extremely unlikely) the pins will be in the correct place on all of them. The ALDL connector is held down to the console skeleton with two screws so it will appear in the orientation above unless someone has removed it and flipped it over. In the flipped orientation it would likely push back under the console with nothing to hold it in place.

The reason the manuals show it the other orientation is because in all other cars the ALDL is screwed into place under the dash with the mounting ears up. GM didn't feel like fixing that when they cut and pasted the diagrams from the other manuals, and the aftermarket manuals didn't bother to check and fix it either.

Man, y'all combined with the internet and Cliff's Forum are the BEST!

I got

Code 34
Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor
The ECM will set code 34 when a problem with the MAP sensor is detected (unusual high vacuum/low pressure). Code 34 usually indicates a defective MAP sensor. Check all connections and replace the MAP sensor if necessary.

Where is this located? Why would it have happened when I swapped trannies and is that what's keeping it from starting? Right now I finally got it all put back together and it cranks and turns and turns and turns but won't start. I do remember it doing this before too though but eventually it would start.

Thanks in Advance,

Mike

Okay, well, it looks like I found the MAP Sensor but I forgot to plug it back in. That should do the trick. I still can't get the car to start but I'll post in a better-titled Post to get more help.
