this is the theft deterrant that is in the ignition lock cylinder. keeps the car from being started with out an actual key. this is NOT the type that has a chip or resisitor in the key. has anyone here had any experience in bypassing this type of system before without a bypass module? i've looked up description and operation as well as schematics. i have a rough idea of how to do this i was just wondering if anyone has done it before to give me tips.

You can use a relay, but it is much simpler to use a bypass module.

i'm putting a remote start into a 2000 saturn. so far the plan is to get a resistor of similar value as what the sensor produces now and relearn the BCM to that resistance. i'm hoping that works. the only problem with the module is that it costs $50 and i'd rather not spend that when i can do it for $1.

My 86 N* Fiero has a 97 N* installed. The Cadillac mechanic who did the install told me that he installed a resistor for the passlock and a speed sensor for the th125 automatic to work with an obd1 N* computer. I can ask him for a more details, but it sounds as though other people have also successfully used this same technique

There is a module wired to the ignition switch with matching resistors in it, the key is just to complete the circuit. That is why you need a module even though the key looks like it doesn't. Dan

correction: the module is a hall effect sensor which is activated by a magnet which is moved by the key. the key has nothing to do with the circuit itself besides that it moves a magnet into the right place. i have a schematic for the passlock module itself and it's just 2 resistors. one is for the passlock and one is for tamper-resistance incase someone puts a magnet up to the passlock module. i'm just going to go with my resistors and hope that it works.
