Has any of the SBC Guys used the Trans-Dapt Oil Filter Relocation kit? It looks similar to the Moroso Kit but I was curious if there was a clearance problem or any differences that could be an issue? I'm using an Archie Kit.

Archie use one that bolts in place of the stock bypass with the outlets coming down.
Most of the "spin on" style with the inlet/outled pointing down will have interferance issues with the starter.
I used a TRD Oil Filer Bypass - part # TRD-1413, price $16.95. This is a Ford part with the inlet/oultet to the side and has 1/2" NPT ports. It requires you swap out the spin on bypass to change to the Ford filter thread. It still required some massage work to the starter block, but its been there for a few years without issue
Another option is to remove the stock bypass and tap the oil holes in the block directly - then all you need is the portion that holds your filter in the new location.

I used the Moroso for the oil filter adapter and the Trans-Dapt for the rest because it comes with nice threaded connectors with the hoses rather than clamps. But as far as I remember its oil filer adapter is too thick to fit.

fieroguru, what did you do to get that adaper on there? I like the way the fittings are just "right there" out the side like that. I never thought about that, but I like that idea.
I agree, I like the Transdapt pre-fabbed hoses without the clamps.

To change to the ford thread, I used an spin on adapter for the older canister style filter system to convert to the spin on filter. It comes with a variety of thread options. This part just bolts in place of the OEM bypass spin on adapter. In the lower Right of this pic is the new spin on adapter ($5 to $10 on ebay)
Once the spin on adapter is installed, the rest just spins on like a filter.
With this setup, you also don't have to run any hoses. I used 1/2" pipe with hydraulic fittings to a dual filter assy (inlets from the side) and a bracket off the tranny for support.

I should have done this when the motor was out of the car. I used the one I had and it is leaking out of the bolt holes. I have to take the starter off and try to seal them.

I'm glad I started this post. That's almost exactly what I was thinking. In looking through Summit catalog etc, I was wondering if there was a way to modify the "canister adapter" but did'nt really think of what you did. By any chance, do you know what Brand of canister adapter you used? I was looking at 2 Trans-Dapt part numbers but can't figure out the difference between the 2.
I'm going to unbolt my original now and see what it looks like.

Its been a while, but I am pretty sure it was the TRD-1024. Its 3/4-16 thread matches the TRD-1413 I used.
HOWEVER, I just checked with summit again and another option would be TRD-1420 it is the same as the TRD-1413 but with the 13/16-16 thread and should just spin on any SBC that already has a spin on filter. I haven't tested this one yet, but it looks promising!

I may give that TRD-1420 a shot. It seems to be listed for a 78 chevy truck but it does have the 13/16-16 thread nipple so I'm guessing that may do the trick. I'm trying to find out the difference between the 1420 and the one that you used. If it's just the threaded part, I may be in luck.
EDIT: It looks like the one you used is the same as the 1420 except it uses a 3/4" thread and the 1420 uses the 13/16" thread. I think we are in good shape. I'll post once I try it in person.

I'm using a Canton Racing Products 90degree rotating billet remote filter adapter (part 22-592).
I had to machine part of it to clear the starter mounting block. Warning: I'm not using the exact starter placement as Archie's kit (because I don't know what the exact placement is for his kit), though it's close, so use at your own risk I like it because it comes with a very good rubber gasket that does not leak.
