Sorry, to post off topic here...but keeping my fieros running is something im pretty confident I can do..But now my moms Audi has died while driving, and will not start back up...Ive got the service manual for it, but Cant proceed with doing anything cause it seems everything requires a special tool this and special tool that...
I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how I could diagnose this problem myself, rather then paying to have it towed and diagnosed at a dealer...Im confident I could fix the problem if i knew what it was, I wanted to check if the relay for the fuel pump was working but even that required some special tool, tried to search it in google to see if i can find a picture and maybe make one myself, but couldnt find a thing
Stupid audi!!

Thanks for any who bear with my off-topicness...

You need fuel, air, and spark for an engine to run. You should be able to check all of these without special tools. You can unhook the fuel supply line and have it empty into a container to see if you are getting fuel. You can also remove the sparkplugs to check their condition. You also want to start with the basics. Check your fuses. Make sure no plugs have become disconnected and look at the spark plug wires to see if they look good. If you are lucky it is something simple like a clogged fuel filter or bad coil. At worst it could be bad fuel pump or dead ECM. You should be able to test most components with a DVM (digital volt meter).
If you have a scan tool you will be able to find out more quickly what is wrong. That is all the dealer is going to do to diagnose the problem. Maybe you could borrow or rent one. Do you have any symptoms as to what the car is doing or not?
