17x8, 45mm offset

Will these fit on a stock Fiero (wondering particularly if the offset is ok). Also just want to make sure they'll clear Archie's big brakes.

14.5lbs baby!!!

Anybody know?

15s are too small for Archie's Big Brakes, right?

the 88's are a different matter - but yes those should fit no problem - especially after the brake upgrade since it spaces the wheel out about 5mm

nice light wheels - but hella costly

I would go to this website and plugin the numbers and then you can see where the new rims will fall.

Along the same lines of aftermarket Replacement Rims.
Does that mean I'll be OK using a 5mm spacer on the rear rims that measure 18x7 - 5x100 40mm offset?
According to the sales person at the Rim store a 40mm offset using a 18 x 7 Rim is no problem on a 85 Fiero GT.
However, as I read this forum, the consensus seems to be I'll be sorry with a 40mm offset on the rear.

Anyone else?

Thanks—I'm going to go ahead and plan to get these as soon as I've got the money then.

Anybody know if these would work on my '98 Sunfire as well? I know the bolt pattern is the same, and I think the offset on the Sunfire should work to my advantage (so these will stick out too far, if anything, which I don't mind), but I don't have any numbers on the Sunfire. Probably something I should ask over at the J-Body forums but you guys are cooler, so…

Thanks again!

I'm running 17x7 with 42mm backspacing - but spaced out 5mm by the brake upgrade up front and a matching spacer in the rear to keep the backspacing the same.. I like the look a lot.

Hey, I'm wondering about tires now. Would 245/40 be an acceptable size on a 17x8 rim? It is on the wide end of what the rim will accept, but considering I've had great success with 215/65 Eagle GTIIs on the 14x6 stock rims, I'm thinking it should be fine. Anybody disagree?

245/40/17 gives a damn near identical rolling radius to 195/70/14, which is what was on the car when I got it—that's the stock tire size, correct?

I'm thinking these look good: http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/findTireDetail.do?sw=false&cs=245&pc=43951&rd=17&ar=40

For anyone wondering why the hell I'd bother with W-rated tires, this is for the SC 3800 II swap planned car.

those are the same tires i'm running on my 17x7's in the pic above - except i currently have 225's all around
245's on an 8" wide rim will be fine -

but keep in mind you may have to trim the spring perch to clear them if you don't have coilovers

245/40/17 or even a 255/40/17 is an acceptable size for an 8" wide wheel.

Those should work great.
I recommend staggering tire sizes front and rear. Go with 205 or 215 up front and as wide as you can reasonably go in the rear (245s or 255s with those wheels). This is a V6 car, right? The more weight you have in the back the more tire you want back there.

Thanks for the replies on the tires. To answer the questions about what the car's engine and suspension setup is, well, this is for a project that I want to do all at once, far enough into the future that I can plan things properly and get the money to back it before I start.

I want to go Koni adjustable all around, power it with a SC 3800 II, and do what I can to move weight forward in the car. Performance handling is going to be the number one priority on the car. Comfortable ride (to me, the ride comfort of my '98 Sunfire is way more than adequate, so if I want to go on a long trip, I'll use that—but let's make the Fiero a fun machine ) and looks are the last things I'm taking into consideration. A decent amount of power (looking for a twelve-second car here) will be in place to better utilize the handling capabilities of the car. Beyond that, it's gotta be downright "fun to drive."

Right now I'm working on the planning and funding. The funding is going better than the planning, as my automotive background is…well, I don't have one—so I have to teach myself everything from scratch. Thank God for this forum—I've learned a lot. I'm also spending a lot of time studying a friend's UTI automotive books. I'm considering going to Wyotech (more for the Fiero than for getting a job such is the Fiero obsession)…for now, the best thing I can do is ask you guys lots of questions and make sure I'm not too far off track on these plans.

So thanks again for the input.
