I discovered a small leak right behind my rear E- Brake Caliper arm. I haven`t taken a caliper apart before on a 88GT , and was wondering if I need a whole new caliper ?? Or just a O-ring or something back there?? Also the brake pads don`t look to be installed the same way as my other 86GT`s are, how do the pads come off ?? I got the car a couple years ago, and the previous owner installed yellow calipers all the way around, anyone know where he would have bought them that way??--it has Fiero in red on them too. Appears to be in red vinly letters --not positive. If I need to replace either the O-ring or whole caliper --any tricks too it ??? I was in a hurry to get the new 3800Sc axles in and didn`t pay alot of attention to the brakes system on the 88GT--just noticed they where different. Any help , info , pics , links ,ect will be appreciated.. Thanks.......

well... you can put an o-ring in there. I did this before. Just clean up the mounting surface. You could get a caliper rebuild kit also. In my case the o-ring was all I needed.

I just had a problem very similar to yours. I noticed a leak coming from the bolt/nut that holds the parking brake bracket onto the caliper. I had just finished a partial drop of the cradle to change the trans. I can't remember why I had to tighten the nut, but I did. Oh. I put a new cable on for the passenger side. Any way a few days later I noticed I was getting a leak from this area. I thought I would have to replace the caliper. It was only about a year ago that I installed it. So I did some research and found the torque spec.for the nut. I loosened the nut and retighten the nut to the proper torque spec. The leak stopped and I havent had one since. I don't recall the torque spec but it was some what low. I have an 88.

Yep, some shop had fooled with mine--its a 88GT and when I called the shop to ask why it was leaking, they told me to tighten real hard.

Would anyone know what that torque spec would be ??

Thanks......................

Thanks to all, especially solotwo, I loosened that e-brake lever nut--man they had that thing on there tight, I had to use a 450lb torque air impact wrench to remove it, but I got it off and re-tightened to torque specs (which are 35lbs for all Fieros 84-88) then drove it over 1.5 hrs --alot of stop and start driving and mashing the brakes pretty good to give it a work out, pulled it into shop checked again--no leaks ==dry as a bone--did some other stuff on the car--checked again 5-6hrs later, still dry as a bone. Hopefully when I check later today it will be the same, I`m sure it is fixed though--and here I was ready to buy a new powder coated caliper-----Not..... Thanks Again!!!
