Well Saturday was a pretty good day over all. I was able to attend the outing at the GM Heritage Center. The ole 2.5 got over 38 MPG for the trip. That was the great news. The good news, I got home and saw some green drips on the garage floor. Oh I thought, water pump. I dread doing it. Well upon futher investigation the water pump is ok. Now for the bad news. The leak is coming from the belt tensioner. I must have driven down to Detroit and back with the leak and didn't know it. The Lord was watching over me! That was a 300 mile trip. So now I have to make plans some time in the next few weeks and install the belt tensioner. Anyone else have this problem?

I had to replace my tensioner because the tension arm was shot. Held the pulley at an odd angle.
It's not a lot of fun to replace, but I hear it's easier than a water pump.
I can't really imagine where it could be leaking, unless it's where it's bolted to the block. If that's the case, it may just need regasketing.
Before you tear it all apart, check the hose clamps. There's one under the water pump (mine leaked at this hose), and there's a heater hose that fastens to the underside of the intake manifold.
I don't remember if there are any more on that side of the car. Been a while since I had my Duke.

No, it definetly is coming from the bottom of the tensioner. I even noticed a little green on the top of the tensioner.

I am wondering if I should just add some stop leak? Or take the tensioner off and reseal the old one. The engine does have 115,000 and I don't know how long the original tensioner lasts or should I say when they typically need to be replaced. Suggestions?

Thanks,

Steve

The rubber seal under the tensioner has either deteriorated or the is some corrosion present creating the leak.
Drain the fluid and remove and inspect the part. I have installed in the past after a good cleaning with a heavy bead of RTV in the groove and allowed it to set up and cure prior to refilling and running. That was when I could not locate the gasket but it is available I just can't recall where I was able to find one.
