I've been dreading this for a while...finally replaced the leaking pump on my '86 Duke. After reading some of the horror stories in the archives, I put aside two days to get it done.

Took about two hours. And most of that time was trying to get one bolt out. Access to the bolts really wasn't all that bad. And I didn't even need to do anything to the A/C other than remove the belt.

Which leads me to the next question...What's the best way to tighten the A/C belt ? Just what in the hell do you pry against ?

That was one of the 1st things I had to do when we got our 1st Fiero. No, it wasn't bad at all, but I did take the whole bracket off and mounted the pump to it out where I could see to make sure I got the gasket sealed.
As for prying the compressor back to tighten the belt, seems like I ended up prying against the exh piping. I know I bent the heat shield while doing it too. As someone else said=
"They coulda done that different."

Maybe it's easier on the 86 dukes, I struggled with my 88 duke. I had to actually loosen the a/c compressor bracket and drop it down a little.

Oh and your prying question, it's easier if you do it from below.

The brackets are different on the V belt engines. On the serpent engines you have to mess with the one AC bracket.
