Lower “A” arm on an 88, want to replace the ball joint. Does it just press out the bottom? I looked to see if it was tack welded, I see none. Thanks for the help.

Yes, it presses out the bottom.

Depending on the tools you are going to use, a small length of exhaust pipe to support the under side of the A-Arm during pressing works like a charm!

I've done the pressing in and out of ball joints which take a lot of time for me. The last lower ball joint I did on a 88 all I used was a deep well socket to cover the shank and hit for removal. Other than that all I needed was a BFH---i just used a 5lb mini sledge and it only took 5 min to remove and 10 min to install the new joint.

I am familiar with the BFH.... method. However, if there is a Harbor Freight near by they sale a Ball Joint Removal and Installation Tool that works relatively well for about $30. when on sale. Web site is www.HarborFreightusa.com. I do not own any stock in this company, just trying to make the job a bit easier. Good Luck.

AutoZone will loan you the ball joint press. I just did mine, it was a $99 deposit, which is refunded when you bring the tool back.
