When driving around with the drivers window down ,everytime i hit a bumb or go down a rough road ,I get a look of clunk from my drivers door. The hinges seems to be ok .Thier might be a little play in the bushing at the hinges . Would this cause the door to clunk around if they were a very small amount of play at the bushings or what about the strike pin, could it need to be adjusted. This is a 88 GT with about 189,000 miles ,so im sure their are a few worn out parts . But were to start. Thanks again for all the help
To check hinges (with the door open of course) see if you can pull the end of the door up and down. If's there any appreciable up and down play....replace the hinges. To see if it's the striker, wrap some black electrical tape round and round the striker bolt.(about 4-5 loops) You may find this temporarily fixes your door rattle.

It's a combination of three things, two of them you have mensioned. Worn out hinges, worn striker and worn latch. Between the three, you will get some clunking out of the door, especially at 189K on the clock. Replacing the striker will do the most for you. followed by the latch. If you noticed, the latch itself is actually steel coated in plastic. Once the plastic has worn away, witch it does quickly, the tolerance around the striker is pretty loose and the door is free to bounce, regardless of the condition of the hinges. Worn hinges usually contribute to the problem as well. The hinges are more what cause sagging, and that will wear the striker and latch FAR quicker then they already do, adding to the looseness in the tolerances. So to really lick the problem is alot of work. But thats what has to be done.

The other thing you might check are the guides on the glass. You said it only does it with the window down? I have the same problem and it is the glass.
