Ok today me and my dad hto work on my 88Gt. We change my spark plugs wires, coil, distributor cap and distributor shaft, ignitions module and the dog bone.
Now when ever I start the car the engine idles high. And then when I go to put the car in reverse (my car is a auto) the car dies.
I am not sure what is wrong with her I just need some help and someone to give me some suggestion

Thanks all!

Sounds like you have a vacuum leak, possible the infamous cracked EGR tube that runs from the exhaust manifold to the underside of the intake manifold upper plenum. Also, check your other vacuum lines, in many cases the plastic has become very brittle over the years and is prone to breaking and cracking at the least provocation.

How did you set your igition timing? I assume you used a jumper wire in the ALDL connector behind the cigarette lighter trim plate to disable ECM timing control?

you said "distributor shaft" do you mean the rotor?

will it die if you put it in a forward gear?

The whole shaft is new. What happens is when I turn on the car it will idle high, then after a min the car will turn off. Then if I shift the car into a gear the car dies.

And it didn't have this problem before you started. Double check your timing and hoses (vac).
