Hi all,

If you had a moddified 3800, say pushing 400 hp would you choose an oil cooler or a tranny cooler as an add on feature??

I have a modified 3800SC but its not up to 400 hp yet. If your using a stock 4T65E-HD they start failing when you pass 300 hp so I'd vote for the tranny cooler. Then save up and get a oil cooler since the engine don't get as much air in the Fieros as they do in the Grand prixs.

Hi all,

Well as far as driving style I would say for the most part normal city, highways.......On occasion the norm would be CRUSHED with the 1/4 mile though not as much as when NO cops are around and I want to take some good corners......I think we as fiero owners are part of that crowd that ALWAYS knows where those good corners are..

So, to sum things up, mostly normal, maybe speeding 5 to 10 mph's above posted, taking corners which would probably be the most abuse!!! And some but not alot of 1/4 mile driving......

edit: Also, I think that adding an oil cooler is the way i'd be going....Simply cuz of the heat of things in a fiero...... The trans will of course be as beefed as needed......

Hi all,

Ok, sorry there is even more confusion, totally my fault!!! I want to run an intercooler also on the 3800.... But, I don't want to put the coolers infront of the rad...So, the only place left is running them behind the scoops of an IMSA.... An intercooler and either a trans or oil cooler each of them on one side........ Obviously there is room to mount them, the only thing I don't know is wether or not you'd have to buy custom made to fit in such a place......

I think that I am pretty set on running an oil cooler, previous made thoughts apply....Though I am now more concerned with someone telling me to run a tranny cooler because??

Oil/Tran cooler radiator come in alot of different sizes some I'm sure you can find one close to most opening sizes with out having it custom made. The mount for it might have to be custom made. If you get a radiator with fan on it then it wouldn't have to be where air is blowing through it you just have to make sure the fan gets cool air.

i would get the trans cooler first auto trans are weak and heat killes them faster . but i would save for the oil cooler because that will help keep the engine at a better temp .

I think you might be able to get a combo type cooler, with two sets of pipes. I don't know what size they are and what size you need though.

Hi all,

That would be awesome to kill two birds with one stone!! Though I have to wonder if it would be only half as effective.... Still would be better than just the rad cooling everything... Right now I am only in the research phase of my project, so lol, I have no idea of what sizes either........Thanx for all your thoughts guys.....
