To hold the strut in the compressed position for shipping? Was the bottom of it clipped onto the strut in any fashion?

Thanks for the reply, SpeedDemon.. I did wonder that myself, but it was just laying on the top rod, held on by the nut.It is just loose, and I wonder if you are right..it doesn't really look as if it is an actual component, as such. There is nothing similar on the original strut, so i am not going to worry any more, unless somebody else thinks otherwise!!

I agree that it's used to hold the strut in the depressed position for shipping. You don't need it.

Thanks guys...yes, you are right..the struts were in the extended position when they arrived...poking through the box ends!!! Pushed them back in, and the clips lock around the top of the body...problem solved!!!

All I can say is that I did a complete tear-down and rebuild of my suspension last year... and there was nothing like that on the old struts nor the new ones.

Just out of curiosity, what brand struts did you buy?

Edit..Hi Blacktree...they are Gabriel struts..I bought them on eBay some time ago from Stocklifts...great price! $40 plus shipping of $25...both for less than half the price for ONE strut from AcDelco UK!!
