Since I've recently decided to keep my Fiero 95% stock I was wondering what are a few basic things that can be done just to get a little extra get-up-and-go from the motor? I've already done an ignition tuneup (autolite plugs, 8mm accel wires, dizzie cap, rotor, module, and coil), but what are some of the things, tweaks, I guess you would call them just to get a little more power. I'm not looking to increase quarter mile times or 0-60 times drastically or anything semi-practical like that. I just want a tad more power for the street. Personally I think the 2.8 Fiero is quite fast stock, but a little more power would make it that much more impressive.
Losing the catalytic convertor I'm sure can give you a slight power increase. What you guys thinks? 1-3hp?
Anything else? Remember guys I'm not looking for "nitrous oxide" or "supercharger", just simple and cheap little tweaks to get the most out of the 2.8 without modifying a whole hell of a lot of stuff.

You can have your throttle body and upper plenum bored out by Darrel Morse. You also can remove the obstructions on the exhaust manifold logs. You can replace your catalytic converter with one of the newer high flow models. you can find one at www.fierostore.com or www.rodneydickman.com . These mods should get you what you want. The Borla exhaust system is supposed to help also. I think the Fiero store still has some left.

Put a K&N air filter in the box. You'll feel the difference right away. Go with the bored out throttle body and upper intake from Darryl Morse. Make sure the intake in the engraved version. That should be worth another horse or two. Get a performance chip for the computer. Pops right in. Get the exhaust manifolods ported out. Add a Hi-Flo Cat to the exhaust. Get some 1.6 ratio rockers for the valve train. (Check this out in the archives to make sure they will work without binding the springs). You may be able to advance the timing a few degrees with premium gas. Now add a Rodney short shifter and you'll be able to keep the nose up between shifts.
Now your ready to rock & roll !! Bring the rrrrrr-s up to 5k at a stand still and while using your heel as a pivot just side step the clutch. If everything holds together you'll be a sure winner.

Definitly pull your exaust manifolds and port them out. If you're like me, you'll be unlucky enough to find the front one cracked and decide to order the sprints from the Fiero store or one of the manifolds offered by West Coast Fiero (a new replacement for the cracked front is $275, a good excuse to get new customs). Darrell doesn't port whole manifolds anymore but still does the TB and throat of the upper plenum.

Working in the tranny/diff business you'd be amazed what dumping the clutch will do to components. LIke you said, if it holds together

Do what has been proven to work as far as bolt-ons.
Aftermarket ignition could is good for 2rwhp and 3ft*lbs grind out the manifolds 8 peak rwhp gain grind the casting off the crossover pipe like Oreif did on his carb'd 3.4 - net gain ??? but he maid 47 rwhp more hp than I did with a few more mods than me.
the stock TB and intake is perfectly matched to the diplacement of a 2.8 although a bigger TB has shown a gain it peak hp with a loss in low-end tq. I wouldn't bother with that unless you go to a 3.4
Shortening the intake has been dyno proven to gain top end power. A machine shop can do that for you cheaply. Between both ends of the middle intake manifold and the lower side of the upper intake, you can remove about 1.3". Paying for some polishing at that point would help alot too.
A 2.8 bone stock will dyno at around 115rwhp. With these mods, you should exceed 130rwhp easily.
