I'm in the middle of a swap and am bouncing between a stick or auto.
Here's the start of the build thread.

This is going to be a daily driver. The car I'm swaping into is auto and may make things a little less $$.
How is your 4t60 holding up? What kind of MPG? Are you happy with it?
Does anyone have one for sale?

TBI 4.5 with a 1990 4t60 (not 'E') and a torque converter from a v6 Cavalier for a stall RPM of about 2000~2300. For daily driving, I hate the stall converter. But for playing games at the stoplight, it makes the wimpy 150 horse engine have some jump to it before it falls on its face. The gearing and shift points seem to be about right for the engine. In overdrive, 1500 rpms is pretty close to 55 MPH and at 2500, the 85 mph speedo is past the end of the scale.

I used to run that setup.... The only tricky part was the TV cable adjustment for shift points... Unfortantly it devoloped a harsh downshift clunk that was annoying......... so I went with the 5speed izusu.

If you go with this setup.. make sure you get a fresh rebuilt auto, You will never have to worry about clutches and master and slave cylinders ect.

PBJ ran that setup on his turbo 4.9 as well.

I've got a 4t60e behind my 4.9 and I wish I had gone with an Isuzu instead. I am a hardcore stick shift guy, but since the car was already and auto I thought that would be the way to go. And I thought the auto would be more reliable, but mine has developed a quirky downshift where it sometimes hangs. As soon as I can get all the parts I need for the conversion I'm pretty sure I'm converting it to 5 speed.

What kind of torque converter did you use?

final gear ratio on mine was 2.84, I used a torc converter out of a 3:33 final drive The stall speed on the 2:84 was low (like 1500) The one I got was higher, I still have the torc converter in the garage If you need it... You can have it for free. And the transmission but the transmission needs to be serviced. It drove fine but the downshift clunk was annoying. I had the tv cable adjusted awsome to when it shifted at 5200rpm

The harsh downshift was the transmission, It worked fine for awhile then devoloped the bad downshift problem, It started doing this when I had the 1500 stall speed torc converter, I thought it might be the torc converter so I purchased one from a 3:33 final drive transmission (higher stall speed) That did not solve the problem so I gave up and converted to stickshift.

For the 4t60 you will need the left and right axles from a 89 pontiac 6000 4speed auto with light duty brakes.

86FieroEarl,

I'm very interested in any thing you have that will help hook up MTA's 4.5 to a 4T60.
Check your PM and PM me.
