Okay I need some buildup engine help, on a 3.1. It's the stock engine just stroked. I need it to handle some boost, so I need an smart open minded person that's willing to help me out and let me know what needs to be done. Please PM me if you can help me, and I'll send you the details because if I post it here it'll end up in a flame war, and all I really want is help not the other crap.

The amount of boost that you intend to run will have everything to do with how the engine must be built. If you just wish to run 6-7 psi of boost, the stock internals will handle it. However, if you wish to run 15 psi of boost, you'll need forged pistons an O ringed head and perhaps stronger rods. An intercooler or alcohol/water injection will prove to be a must over 9-10 psi of boost.

I plan on running about 15, I just need to know what internal engine stuff needs to be done. I am going to be using 2 Garrett GT25s on each side of the car running an intercooler at a side scoop on each side. The plan is to have the front exhaist manifold dump out on the opposite side of the car (passenger) to give myself a lil room for engineering. I have a junk turbo comming in the mail to work out all the pipe work.

okay this is what I'm planning, I have a 3.1L pushrod... and I want to know a few questions, before I plan on a turbo project. First of all the setup I'm planning will be an intercooled twin turbo, one right at the end of each manifold (header, whatever). I would like to see a lil bit above 300HP give or take a lil bit. I was thinking around 10-12 lbs of boost, would be a good target to aim for figuring it won't be a perfect setup so that should get me around where I need to be. First question, I was looking at the GT25, will they be small enough to spool off of 1.55 liters, and what kind of spool up time would I be looking at. I don't have a very broad RPM range to work w/ so I need a rather quick spool. Also it's going to have about the same intake design hoping for more torque so I have to deal with that too. I want to do alot of valvetrain work too because that seems to be on of the spots where the fiero engine is really dated.

What is your budget?

Forged rods and pistons
ductile iron sleeves
moly rings
ARP bolts everywhere
hi flow oil pump
turbo cam
get the tranny cryo'd
bigger injectors

might wanna get the rods shot peened at a machine shop.

as for what kind of turbo you might use here's a few choices

Garrett T3 60 1.06 I only calculated with the highest revs at 5600rpm

Garrett TO4 S3 O 0.8200000000000001 calculated with the rev limit to 6000rpms

Both was with a intercooler and running 16 pounds of boost with a dissplacement of 3200 cc, If you don't use a intercooler then the T3 60 will do you fine. These are single turbo setups BTW

It's easy to find the T3 turbo models.... They come on a number of cars but they only come with the T3s with the 45 trim... I have no info on were to find a super 60 trim for the T3 turbos,

I personally like the single turbo setups better.... When you do twin turbos you start hurting for engine compartment space (keep that in mind)

For that kind of boost I would look into a 3.4 camero block, they have a stronger bottom end and better oiling to the mains.

yeah, I have started leaning towards the single turbo setup more and more, looking under the decklid. I can see the space for twins, but good lord the piping would be an absolute mess, and I don't want to deal with that much. Someone suggest water injection to me, which I'm looking into a bit more due to the space issue again. I don't know alot about it but it seems that would be a little bit easier to squeeze in. Anyways, I'm going to start working on all the piping and what not in a few days figure things out for sure. The only thing Im
worried about is not being able to use the turbo to its full potential being such a low redline engine. I'm gearing more towards torque because really fast top speeds scare me . Sorry if this seems scatter brained or what not, my brain is sleeping right now and so should I.
