Hey guys. I have a 93 Olds Achieva with a high output quad 4 in it. Behind that is a internal slave getrag. 3rd gear was out so I was going to replace the trans since I also blew out the seals on the stock slave cylinder. I found a brand new transmission at a salvage yard on car-part.com. The price was so good I couldn't pass it up. Well the trans arrived. It was the used one they had listed. I called and they apologized and shipped the new one to me. They also picked up the used one. So yesterday I tear into the swap. When i took the old trans out I set the new one right next to it, and took pics just because it was my first trans swap by myself. I made my own trans jack and put it into the car no problem. Bolted it to the engine. Then hooked up the shift cables. WTF it wouldn't go into any gear. So I ran inside and did some research another guy had the same problem with a new trans. People told him it was because there was no fluid in it. I called my friends dad who has been a gm mechanic for the past 20+ years he said the trans was no good but since I had it that far I could try it if I wanted to. Well got it back together fired her up. New clutch works great.... Still can't shift.
*Note before this I tried shifting the trans with the cables off by hand didn't work. My dad looked at the bracket and said hey a bushing is busted.... sure enough looks like the trans took a hard fall or got hit with a hammer on the external shift levers. I took the one of my old trans and put it on... no change. Good thing I took picks before I put it in. If you look at the pics you can see it was bent up before I even pulled out the gm hole plugs.
Does anybody know what might be wrong? I'm calling up the place tomorrow if they don't take this one back I'm goign to dispute the charges on my credit card.
