Greetings board.
I have posted here in the past but can't find my log-in info, so I appear to be new
I have a Formula 5-speed that developed a rod knock, and I purchased a new block for it some time ago. It is now time to get this baby back on the road, but I realize some shops don't like to work on Fieros. Anyone who knows of a good shop around the St. Louis area - that won't charge an arm and a leg AND is "Fiero-friendly" - please post your suggestions here! Thanks!!

Hmm...

I could possibly do it if you don't need it in a hurry. I could even pick it up. Email me at tim.e.smith@boeing.com

You might try the local St. Louis Fiero club (assuming there is one). Are you replacing the old block with a long block, or a short block?
I have replaced 2.8's and taking the old engine/cradle out, taking off parts from the old block and putting on new one (brackets, FI, intake/exhaust manifolds etc) usually takes me a couple of weekends and I charge $600 labor. So finding someone like me in your area would be your best bet.
Also, you would replace your WP and probably your clutch while the engine is out, and be prepared for unexpected things like a bad mount or a leaking CV joint, or a bad brake line/emergency brake cable.
I recently did a V8 swap and the old 2.8 had an exhaust bolt broken off in the head and the tranny mounts were in bad shape. Things to consider.............Paul

I bought the new block (date coded 1988) from "FieroDave" up north - does he have a good rep.?
It's in a pretty darn small crate, so I guess it's a SHORT block?? It's been a couple years since I bought it and I just don't recall...
Yes, I figured I'd want to do the clutch at the same time - that's just common sense. W.P. is a good suggestion, and who knows what shape the heads are in (the car has 120k miles)....

Thanks for the replies - Tim, I've sent you a message!
