Well I'm going to be going to the track tomorrow night and was wondering what other people run thier pressures at. My friend with a Firehawk and Nitto drag radials runs 12psi in his tires, but that just seems too low for me. I have Falkin Azenis RT-615 tires that will get sticky when heated up. What kind of pressure are other people running? I was thinking about running 20psi. Thanks, Mark

when I was at IRP I lowered my rear tires to 15psi. They're nothing special, dunlop 225-55-R15. If I had to do it again I would run them a little lower...they still didn't grab good enough off the line and I think a lower pressure would help.

would be interrested to hear from people who have experimented with this

tire pressure is something you will have to play wiht a nd figure out, you want to run asmuch pressure as possiable and still hook. it took me 3-4 passes to figure out where i needed mine to be, little odd but to maintain control of the vehicle on far end I have to run 30lbs in my ET Drags. most thinks that is insane but it still hooks.

I have raced with 20 psi and even 15 psi. The 15 slowed me down but increased my 0-60'. The 20 was okay. Word to the wise make sure there is a gas station with air hose near the track. I made this mistake once. Driving home on 15 psi is not good.

Well I tried 20psi and was getting really good 60' times so I just left it there for the entire night. I ran mostly all 2.0XX times and one 1.99X. I was pretty happy with that considering I only have a 3.4L. I just wish that I could get my 1/4 time down. My best for the night was a 15.3. In the past I have gotten a 15.2, and I was hoping that I could do better than that. It was only my second time at the track, so with some practice and a little tuning on my car I may be able to do better. Thanks again for the advice, Mark

Dough - What car do you have? manual or auto? Clutch company? Any mods? What's your budget?

Just wondering.....my brother has a stock 5spd getrag/formula that ran a 15.5 kinda proud of him he beat a camaro with a 305 that run.

If your track is like the one by my house, which has 3 (yellow) staging lights then the green. Launch on the 3rd yellow. Sounds like you need to find an empty parking lot and practice. If you do have a manual launch from different rpms and see which gives you the best acceleration and less wheel spin. But try to be easy on the clutch if it is stock. Stickier tires equal better times too.

Leaving on the 3rd (or second yellow) will not help your et just your reaction time. Stage slowly and stop as soon as you light the second yellow. By doing this you will be moving alittle faster by the time the timer starts helping your et alittle but hurting your reaction time alittle.

Also you can power brake a auto to a certain rpm and launch the car at that rpm which can help lower your et on some cars.

That sounds retarted. If you take all day to leave the line your time will suffer. If it takes .5 to leave the line guess what...you add .5 to your et.

Why do some people insist on posting about a subject that they no nothing about?

ET = Elapsed time

ET dosnt start till AFTER YOU leave the staging beams.

Iv sat around for 5 seconds on my fiero after the light turned, when my idel was acting up.... et was still 15.2 seconds (3.4l)

Reaction time was 4.7 Seconds

does that mean my 3.4 did a 10.5 Quarter???? I think not

Kids listen when someone speaks and uses proper english, that is usually a hint that they know somthing!

Snip
The reaction time is not part of your et... many new racers think that the reaction time is adding time to their total et... actually your et is started when you broke the beams after your reaction time was accrued. Reaction time importance becomes more important if you are grudge racing a buddy or even more importantly in bracket racing competition. I will discuss the reaction time in more detail later in this section.

A staging tip copied from Musclecarclub.com (first site I found that talked about this).

"If you're looking for a quick ET (and don't care so much about winning the race), barely inch the car into the staging beams. Your time doesn't start until the wheels no longer block the beam. By staging this way, you get an extra couple of inches to accelerate before your time is recorded. Similarly, if you are interested in getting to the finish line first, go forward more."

So how come when I have a perfect reaction time my et is lower and when I have abad et it is higher?
And I do know how to speak proper english.

And a 15.2 with a 3.4????? My brother got a 15.5 with a stock formula.

The RT timer start counting when the light turn green and then stop counting as soon as you arn't braking the second light beam, only at this point does the ET timer start. So as long as you're tire is braking the second light beam (the one that triggers the second staging light) The ET timer is at 0.0000000000000000 second. But if the green light is lit then the RT time could be at 1.2222222222222222 seconds. At this point if you were to decide to go then your ET will be the same as if you had a .500 RT assumming your car is consistant.

So to answer your above question. Your ET isn't lower because of RT, Sorry.
