This car will not be running AC so I was thinking about mounting my oil filter here. Its kind of hard to tell but the oil lines will be tucked in to the block behind the header. I will make a plate but for now I just have one bolt holding it on so I could snap some pictures. What do you think? I may have to move it more to the back of the motor to mis the front motor mount but this gives me a general idea where it will be mounted.

All Chevies in Fieros must relocate the filter to make room for the starter on that side of the engine.
I would advise you to mount the filter vertically so that it retains as much oil as it can and minimizes the time at start up when the oil pump is filling the filter rather than pressurizing the engine...
I wont be hooking up the AC as this is going to be my toy. I was looking at a way to mount the filter vertical but there is no room. Archie mounts all of his installs horizontal he puts them on the side of the cradle. I don’t want to mount it there because it is so close to the road.
The only reason I was thinking about putting it there was to shorten the lines from the adapter to the filter. Keeping them as short as possible will cut down on the chance of a blow out. I will have a better idea where to mount everything once I have it on the cradle and have it test fitted in the car. Thanks for looking.

I agree it should be kept as short as possible, and I also prefer to keep them verticle. There is plenty of room to pick a location that can do both for you.
If you use a ford oil relocation kit (need to replace your spin on adapter on with the ford thread), you can hard pipe your oil filter(s) with 1/2" pipe. It is a cozy fit with the starter, but they can co exist with some massaging of both.
My next one will use short (like 3") 1/2" hydraulic lines and fittings and place the oil filter just offset from the block but close to the original location.

I've had my v8 as a daily driver for 3 years. I recommend doing it Archie's way because if you mount it there I think it will be harder to reach once you get the cradle up in the car.

I will be using the plug in the side of the block for one of the hoses so I cant go all hard line.
I was also thinking about where you put your filter and will be looking at that when I get the motor on the cradle. The idea is to use the parts I have and only replace the line. Your install looks great!

If Archie jumped off a cliff, would you?
I can appreciate that there's very little room down there. Personally, I'd try to keep it vertical.
Would there be room to mount it vertically if the connections on the remote filter mount were on the side rather than on top? Get a different filter mount. They're really cheap compared to the cost of th swap.
While technically correct, the assertion that longer lines increase the probability of line rupture is irrelevant... as long as you're using sufficient grade of hose, 80 psi of oil pressure will pose absolutely no threat to those hoses.

I think with a quality filter with a bleed back valve it should be fine. The filter should stay full and it will build oil pressure just fine. If they didn’t want so much for a pre-oilier I would install one of them as well.

Sure he must know what he is doing
I want to keep the lines short because of the heat off of the header. The ideal place would be mounting it where fieroguru did or close to where he did. I was just putting it out there to see what everyones thoughts were on mounting it where I have it. I think the front motor mount will be in the way and not let me put it there, but you dont know till you try or ask.
Make one from the hydraulic pump that actuates the top on a convertible Mustang.
The ones listed at Summitracing.com They look like a pump installed next to the remote filter. I already have a high volume oil pump so it should be ok without spending the $400 they want for it. I want to keep the install simple so I will probably just stay with the filter for now.
Edit -- I have the link for the preoiler I was looking at but it is at home. I cant find it on summits site but I will try to update this with a link when I get home.
