I keep seeing mentions of various courtesy lights, which I dont appear to have.
On my '84 Fiero SE I have so far only noticed the dome lights and the light-up dash/HVAC.
Are there not supposed to be lights under the hood and the rear deck? What about in the footwells?
I found a small connector in the front right near the washer fluid bottle that's not connected to anything. Would this be one of the light locations?
I also found the burnt out lights for the ash trays and the cigarette lighter, but those just need to be replaced.
If anyone could list where exactly all the lights are supposed to be, it would be a big help.

Some lights are optional depending on the year and trim level on the car.

I can't swear as to where they all were in earlier years, but on my '88 I had them in the following locations:

Four lights on the overheard console, two that come on as map lights, two that come on as dome lights

One light under each end of the dash to illuminate the footwells - these come on with the dome lights

One light in the front compartment, on the back wall of the storage area - this comes on when the parking lights are on and the front hood is opened

One light in the rear luggage compartment - this comes on when the decklid is opened

There are also lights in the ashtrays, and in the cigarette lighter

The instruments, of course, are illuminated, as are the climate controls and stock radio. If you have a power decklid release switch and/or rear window defroster, these switches will also be illuminated when the dash lights are on.

Hope that helps a bit.

Jax, I don't know about other years but 84s are kinda strange. Wife & I each have an 84 se. Both have ac, cruise. Mine has sunroof-her's does not. Her's has elec windows-mine doesn't, but mine came with footwell courtesy lights, front storage compartment light, and trunk light. Her's did not.
The light harness and bulb holder for the front storage compartment is there on all 84s as far as I know. Her's had it, and all I had to do was add a bulb and the bracket. That would be the bulb holder you found near the A/C accumulator. You need a bracket. Ask in the mall section.Electrathon usually has one for sale and it's powdercoated. To be honest tho, that little bulb doesn't light up very much area at all. I'm not real sure what it's purpose is other than maybe to help in stowing the sunroof glass at night.

This is a good start.
Anyone know or have a picture of the bulb locations of the footwells and the rear?
So far I've only found one mystery wire under my dash (besides the cheesy alarm someone added) and it looks strangly like it plugs into the clutch switch. Anyone know if the '84s had two separate sets of wires plugging into the clutch switch? What on earth would the second bunch Do?

I know that the lights didn't come in all models. I have had two 86 2m4's and one had a trunk light, and one didn't. As long as there is a tread about it, does anyone know how to put in a trunk light. I didn't see any wireing going there when I took out the dummy lense that is in there. Is it buried in there and can I easily add a bulb like mentioned for the front earlier? I do have footwell lights and neither of my cars had a light in the front compartment. There are more bulbs in the passenger area than one would think, It's just that a lot of them are burned out.

And never forget the lowly cigarette lighter. There's a small bulb piggy-backed on the socket which causes the symbol in the head of the lighter to illuminate. I'll bet 9 out of 10 don't know there's one there, and 99 out of 100 are burned out.

The footwell lights are the same in the 84s as others in terms of mounting brackets. The drivers side socket is part of the fuse box. On the passenger side there may or may not be a sheet metal bracket where the dash corner attaches to the body structure. The wiring harness plugs into a socket on the harness that leads up to the dome lights and has the two bulb sockets in it. You need to remove the dash or cut the harness to get it out of a donor car. Installing is the same, either remove the dash or cut the harness and fish it through behind the heater box. I have done this on various year cars and it is worth it in my opinion for the increased visibility in the car you get.

Manual transaxle cars with cruise will have four wires at the clutch pedal--the yellow/purple pair is for the clutch/starter interlock, the other pair is to disengage the cruise control when the clutch pedal is pressed.

That's not the purpose of the bulb - the bulb illuminates the empty socket so the lighter piece can be reinserted.

When I added my courtesy light package, the under-dash harness was orange and white (if I remember correctly) and was not tied in with the rest of the various wiring harnesses under the dash. It's been a while - I might be remembering incorrectly.
