I e-mailed them to ask if any of their parts will swap on to a street aurora or N*
and if they sell CPUs to control spark and FI

maybe not the most practical idea but a fun idea anyway

Interesting find and outstanding price considering those engines were $80K new.
Ryan Falconer builds supercharged versions of that engine for street use.

For those times when the exhaust note from a SBC or ordinary Northstar isn't enough to scare the competition...

Wonder if anybody has a dyno graph?

sent them this E-mail

" was wondering what happened to the IRL aurora motors
from your ad I guess you are selling unassembled motors?
what other parts are needed to have a running unit?
what cost are those parts [CPU FI ect] do you sell CPUs that could be
used on a N*
do you also sell any parts that could be used to hot-rod a street based motor?
like a N* or Aurora or are the race based motors to different to use
as hop up parts ie will the heads or intakes bolt up on a street
block?
can the cams be used in stock heads
does the INDY AURORA motor use the street motors bellhouseing bolt patern?
I an currently building a N* based hotrod sports car for autocross
and know of many others who could use parts if they can be used in hot-rod swaps"

but found out on my F-1 board the indy motors are a custom 7/8 sized copy
of the street motors and most parts mostlikely will NOT swap
so much for stock block racing

"There were around 500 manufactured, so they are around. Pretty cheap too (though that depends on your definition of cheap). A buddy of mine just took moved into a shop in Indy and found four in the loft, still in their crates. If you are willing to scrounge around, you could probably assemble one pretty cheap from parts. However, not one part will fit a production Northstar or vice versa."

o-well

more info on the IRL motors and IMSA versions

"" However, the IRL engine is roughly speaking a "sillhouette motor": while it resembles a production Northstar, it is actually smaller in every exterior dimension and none of the parts interchange. GM and the IRL did an excellent job of selling the engine as "production-based," which I suppose it was given the elasticity of that term.

Before the IRL engine, there was an Oldsmobile IMSA road racing version of the Northstar which was a sort of middle step. Some of those parts may fit a production Northstar, but I don't know that or which and these pieces would have to be pretty rare by now. There aren't a lot of aftermarket parts available for the production Northstar V8 either, probably due to the difficulties in converting its somewhat goofy accessory layout to a North/South RWD application. (the water pump drives off the LR cam cover, the intake is backward, etc.) I have done it and it's not a lot of fun, nor does it produce a very aesthetically pleasing package when all is said and done, say for a street rod or similar application. To me the race engine would be the way to go, provided it fits the budget."

btw the quotes are from atlas F-1 teck forum and the guy quoted is a race insider who posts good info
