My 86 se with T tops is going in for a 3.4 pushrod engine swap in a few days, and i happend to think I really need to get plugs and wires. Just wondering what you guys found to be the best bang for the buck. I have heard the MSD wires are good and the a/c delco rapid fire plugs are nice.

Also I think I'm going to have to replace the clutch. As long as everything is out and in pieces I might as well get it done too. I really can't afford a really pricy clutch but I don't want a total dog either. I have a 4 speed transmission I think Getrag was the only 4 speeds out there for the Fiero, but I'm not sure, let me know if I'm wrong.

Thanks so much for all the help I'm really looking forward to this car when the whole swap is done.

Uh, how about using the components which are specified for the car the engine came from?

The clutch would be the clutch that goes with your transmission.

Not sure about how it relates to your flywheel, though.

I guess what I'm trying to ask is what name brand products do you think will work best.

The 4spd is not a getrag. The 5spd that came with V6 cars is a getrag.

Plugs are your choice. I tend to stick with AC Delco products, unless forced into other choices. For my 3.4 pushrod I'm using the same plug as what was originally put into the engine when the swap was done. That was AC Delco R43TSK. For wires , a heat resistant 7mm wire from Carquest (forced purchase). Unless you are driving like you are at the races all the time, stock components are your best bet. For generalities, the more you spend on components, the better the performance expectations.

I'm using AC Delco Plugs, Accell 8.8 wires & RAM clutch
for me, plugs are plugs, have yet to have a noticable difference between plugs....tho havent tried iridium (best) or champions (worst)
love the accell wires (the 8.8's - not the 8's - the 8's suck/fall apart)- they look great, red boots & very soft flexable yellow silicone jacket. had Bosch wires - worked just fine - lifetime warrenty. and I too have heard good things on the MSD wires - and they're RED
RAM clutch - my first clutch - no problems, but nothing to compare too....
