Hello all!

Just got some new sunroof rails in, rust free I might add

The previous owner of my 85GT decided to remove what was left of the rails and just sat the seal into the groove, this of course does not allow water to drain away, and drains directly into the car. (very minor)

Anyways, The drain holes are already drilled, but my problem is trying to find the proper bolts to bolt these rails to the roof. There are the bolts that have a nut on the inside section of the roof, then I believe there are rivits for the rest of the mounting holes. Does anyone know the correct size rivots to use? And, for the bolts, which I am assuming fit into the holes on the rails which have sleeves that fits into the roof section, which like I said is held on a nut which is visible from inside the car.

I just need to know what kind of bolts to use, or if there is a company that sells these, and what size rivots to use, if they are even necessary.

Thanks very much guys! I appreciate any help!

Matthew

That'd work probably a 1/4" thread

when i rebuilt mine i drilled new holes for standard 1/8" rivets sicne the old holes in the fiberglass had been damaged.

Do these bolts thread directly into the roof or are there nuts on the other side?

The bolts are accessed under the headliner. I just took a set off a junker this weekend.

ahh i see so its a single bolt with no nut, threaded in from the inside of the roof... ok ok, then the other holes which do not have threaded sleeves is where the rivits go.

Any bolts will work or are there special ones with o-rings or a sealer on them?

That whole area is prone to rust. I used small stainless steel bolts on mine. I installed the gasket with no glue so that it's simple to remove it for serious cleaning. The drains are important, and need to be kept open.

Yes the SS bolts are a good idea. i realize that the rails are prone to rusing, which is why I have to put new ones in. Do you believe the rails clip the sunroof seal well enough that it will not fly out on highway speeds?
Yes, I am also aware that the drain holes need to be kept open, or else there would be no need to drill
