My friend has 4 corvette rims with tires he could sell me for $250. I just want to make sure they will fit before I go out and buy them. Would I need a adapter plate or anything? I believe they are off of a 84-87 corvette and are 17".

-David

::EDIT:: Just did a little more research and found out that the fiero bolt pattern is 5x100mm and the corvette is 5 x 4.75in. So I guess I would have to get my hubs redrilled or an adapter plate. From what I've read though, no one trusts adapter plates.

Has anyone personally used adapter plates and had them fail, or are currently using adapter plates that would like to comment? I'd really like to get these rims. They are at such a great price & I'm in need of some wheels.

just be sure they will FIT?
I had a set of stock ones from about that year and they were 9 1/2" by 16"......... that is a WIDE rim!!! The stock tire on it was 255/50/16 - will that fit inside without rubbing and binding somewhere? Just look before you leap is all.

There is not enough room on the 84-87 hub to have it redrilled to 5 x 4.75, true, adapter plates are going to put a lot of stress on your hubs. Even if you do go with the adapter plate, it's going to push the wheel out about 2 inches, combined with a 9 1/2" wide wheel these wheels are going to stick out about 4 inches and look ridiculous. This setup would only look right if you flared the rear end and made a widebody look. So save your money and don't buy those wheels unless you plan a widebody.

Not to mention they'd be heinously ugly on a Fiero.

I'm using 17" Chev pattern Raceline wheels on my widebody 88. There is enough meat on the front only of the 88 only to redrill the hubs. the rear on all years requires adaptors. Many states actually make it illegal to use aluminum adaptors due to safety concerns, and I would never use an aluminum adaptor myself, but I had some steel adaptors custom made for the rear which are 3/4" thick. I needed the 3/4" anyway to get the offset to come out right. This setup would stick out from stock rear bodywork by over 2", so yes it can be done, but no I don't think you'd like the results. better get a widebody kit to go along with the vette rims
