Can anyone give me a preference on nice 4x10 speakers for the front dash? I know Sony makes the XS-W4121, but I see a lot of other 4x10's out there too.

alpine , pioneer, sony ,and audiobahn make soem as well as pyle . the cheapest by far are the pyle speakers . now if you want some nice true sound reproduction then use your speaker as a template and out of wood or metal cut holes and mount a set of 5 1/4 componant speakers . (woofer and tweeter) this gives you a more true reproduced musical sound that an oval speaker cannot produce .

A plate with components is the best way to go. Good components cost money. If you still want to go with 4x10's, get good ones.
Some of the better brands also make 4x10's, but are not carried by many stores. Polk Audio, Eclipse, Alphasonic, Kicker Kenwood and Pioneer are the brands most people use and are quite happy. Many people have been unhappy with Legacy, Lanzar, Pyramid.
There's also Boss, Volfenhag, Soundstorm, American Pro and Emerson (never heard of these before) and they seem to be very inexpensive. (junk?)
Almost all this stuff can be found on www.eBay.com (Search 4x10 speaker)
I have a set of pioneer 4x10's that i put in a few years back and am really happy with them. It really makes a difference what kind of music and how loud you wanna listen to it. If you want something with a lot of bass or super highs they wont sound very good but if your like me and just have them there more for background noise and to turn up for the occasional good song they will work great! Very good cost effective little better then factory replacements.

I had Eclipse 4x10s in my dash until yesterday, when I removed the whole interior. They're the best sounding 4x10 I've ever heard (haven't heard a ton though); probably on par with the Alpines (didn't know Alpine made a 4x10). They're the Eclipse 2-ways, model 8403. The cones are very slightly warped from being in a car, but it doesn't affect sound any. They sound good and I'll sell them.
Junk: Just about all Sony mobile audio (including all speakers) Pyle Boss Volfenhag Soundstorm American Pro Emerson
Bleh (I wouldn't buy, but not worthless): Pioneer Kenwood
Good: Eclipse Polk Alphasonic Kicker
Hope that helps, and let me know if you want to buy them. I'll put them on eBay if no Fiero owner buys them. I don't have a price yet. They're selling for $103 on earelectronics.com, which is too high. You could also go with a plate speaker. PM me if you want!
Edit: sorry, that's $130 on Ear Electronics. I'll let 'em go for less than half that.

i agree absolutely with the eclipse. best sounding 4x10 i've heard in a fiero. although, i've only heard: stock pyramid JBL Eclipse Kenwood the JBL's would be a distant second in my mind. however, i was impressed with a set of basic pioneer 5.25's. they require very little mods to fit, a teeny bit of cutting, but mostly just sealing up the holes on the sides. these speakers were about half the price of the eclipse's

I have some sony 4x10s... they're really good for bass but the sound in general leaves some to be desired. The Kenwoods are PHENOMINAL. Less bass, but better overall sound. I have a kenwood deck that is second to none, so I might be a little biased there.

I have listened to Kenwoods (what I have), Kicker, Pioneer, and Eclipse. The Eclipse is by far the best sounding out of the bunch and I put the Kenwoods in as second. The Kickers sounded muddy to me and the Pioneers I thought had crappy sound overall.

My opinions almost exactly, deranged, although I haven't heard the Kickers firsthand. The Eclipses are more detailed up high than the kenwoods, and seem to be a little smoother around 2-6 kHz.
