Yesterday, I found an 87 Coupe with the "Recall Strip" still on the deck lid. I tried to remove it but the clips were tight. How do you remove the clips without messing them up or tearing the rubber strip ?

Close the trunk half way, it will slip right off with a little screwdriver prying.

You can't remove it with the deck fully open because the hinge is holding it in. Work all the clips as far as you can, then remove the driver's side vent and pull it out with the deck lid closed. Don't worry about ripping the rubber. the clips are on a piece of aluminum. I don't recommend putting that thing onto a car that runs anywhere above 200 hot now. I pulled mine because my oil was running at 270 degrees. I only dropped it 10 degrees by removing the strip, but for some reason I went from 170 miles on a tank to 205 or so. Anyone got any idea why? All I can think of is Hot fuel = bad.

I never had problems with the oil temp until the coating came off my manifolds, and the car still never gets to 200 water temp. The mileage was worse until i found the 165 thermostat some jackass installed bent (always open). I replaced it with a 195 and I didn't smash this one. Much better.
