If it's anything like my wife's 96 grand-am it will be hard. First off what is your car doing? Is it starting then shutting off and blinking the theft light? If it is you might want to try the "key learn "procedure. What you do is , insert the key ,turn the key to the run position on and off 3 times, and on the third time leave the key in the run position. The theft light should (damn i can't remeber if it blinks or not ) blink. Leave the key in the run position for TEN ( 10 ) minutes NO LESS ! At the ten minute mark the light should stop or start blinking (opposite of what it did for the 10 minutes). After that start car. If it doesn't start then you have other issues, like a bad sensor in your lock cylinder . This is all based on if it the same system as a 96 Grand-Am. Hope it helps.

Sometimes it blinks wont start for 5 to 10 minutes, when it stops blinking put key back in starts right up. Looked in owners manual doesnt say anything about learning procedure, but will try it thanks. Its my moms car sad thing is you know it would not even slow down a thief

That sounds kinda like what my wifes grand am does. It'll start and run fine first thing in the morning after you get to were your going and shut it off it will not start for like 10 minutes or so. The key learn procedure isn't gonna be in the book. The dealer charges 90 bucks for this service. My Bro-in-law had a snap-on diagnostic computer that told us how to perform this procedure. Shure as sh*t it worked and the car starts fine. Every now and again it'll act up and i just do the procedure again. try it and see if it works.

On and off three times
on the third time leave it in run for 10 minutes
after light either starts blinking or stops (can't remeber sorry ) at the end of the ten minutes turn key to the start position and start car.
Its a very simple procedure if all the sensors are good it should cure the problem.
