No, thats not it.
Clutch chatter is when the clutch grabs hard, releases, then grabs hard again and repeats over and over (happens really quickly like a machine gun) (gives a jerking motion on hard launches). Springs are used to dampen this effect by absorbing this effect. By having no springs, theres nothing to absorb this effect making chatter almost inevitable. However, if you don't have an aggressive enough clutch (such as an organic/organic) the clutch will slip and not produce enough initial 'bite' and no chatter. What clutch are you running? Most non-spring clutches are usually really aggressive ie: cindered disc.
