I have been having trouble with my oil pressure gauge fluttering all over the dial. I have replaced the sending unit three times. What gives?A Short some where?

Try a different brand like Borg Warner.

If you have a O'reilly store, they carry Borg Warner. I installed the 88 oil sender on mine and it functions much better, but you will have to change the connector on the sender which is no problem.

Others are also having problems with after market oil senders. The Niehoff brand seems to have a problem as reported by powrmajik. Niehoff is a Borg Warner brand as is Echlin (sold by NAPA).

The GP-Sorensen (Standard Motor Products) sender worked O.K. in powrmajik's test.
