Hi All.

Does anyone here have info (or are you using) an F7 Trans from the Allante? I can't seem to find in the search or online an RPO code or ID code to verify.

Secretary at work has a husband who owns a bone yard. I always have him keep an eye out for "kit car items" and today I got a call about an Allante he has. Body damage/undercarraige damage and he already has a buyer for the engine (runs like a bear! and shifts great - 54K miles). He kept me in mind for the trans. I want to confirm it's an F7 just to play it safe.

Here's the thing though. I've pretty much already rulled out using the 4T60 / 440T4, F7 but give me your input to "set me straight".

I have some info on HP / Torque "limits" for some of these trans. Are they (F7) much more "beefier" the the 4T60 / 440T4? or is it just "marginal". I'm doing aSBC V8 Swap and had pretty much rulled out those transmissions due to the 200-ish Lb/ft torque "maximum" that I've seen in print as well as various opinions that 've heard.

I'm going to "de-tune" the engine a bit so it's a bit more streetable Dart Heads will come off and most likely a cam change - Most likely it will be in the 350 to 375HP Range after I'm finished. I'm not looking to break the speed of sound in the 308 replica but instead just have a nice solid / fun drivable car. .

Engine currently dyno's at 414HP @ 6000rpm (Rear Wheel in the last car). Without the sheet in front of me, I beleive the torque was 401lbs/ft @ 5200 so I don't want to be grenading transmissions. I think torque will still be in the 350Lb/ft range or there about after I'm finished with it..

The main factor that I've considered in my last decision was the fact that the 3800 SC owners with mods on the various sites (some in the 375HP range) seem to keep talking about the electronics in their trans / ECM not allowing the car to "acheive" a "decent" Launch due to the trans not really being able to handle that much torque. I've noticed that these cars will not (kind-of) "redline" and instead seem to "ramp up" to the max engine torque because of this. I know the newer electronic trans are quite a bit stronger the than the previous versions (Including the F7 unless I'm mistaken).

Give me some input and "set me straight".
