Hey fellas! I am wiring up a brake controller unit for my camper. The manual states to run the wire to the COLD side of the stoplight switch. I do not know which part of the connector is the cold side- there is a yellow wire and a violet-colored wire for the switch connector. My Volt meter tells me that there is 12v+ at all times on both sides, but when the brake pedal is pressed, the yellow side remains hot and the violet side goes cold.
Does this mean the violet side is "Cold" and the yellow is hot?

Are you sure you're on the right pedal and have the right colors? The colors you list say one thing, but the results you are getting say another thing.

Yellow and purple are the colors for the clutch safety switch, not the brake switch. This would say you have a manual tranny. But you would only get hot when you were trying to start the car. And you'd only get hot on both with the pedal depressed.

The hot when brake is not pressed, cold when brake is pressed is the results that you'd get from the TCC switch, which is the automatic transmission. But the colors for those wires are pink/black and purple.

The wires you are looking for should be green and light blue. The green should be hot at all times. The light blue should be hot when the pedal is depressed.

Steve-
Thanks for this tip. It worked beautifully! The switch makes so much more sense now and it's wired up and working properly. The only thing is that I did not have a green wire, and cannot remember right now what color it was, but the blue was definately the cold I was searching for. Thanks a bunch!!
