Wondered often how hard it would be...canīt do any "proper" work yet...
So. I have this passenger seat sitting in my garage for a year now, in perfect condition, and it matches my damaged driver seat. So, took the bull by the horns, and decided to strip it off..
My damaged seat...after a dear friend decided to "just sit behind the wheel to see..." He had one of those belts on, with riveted-on chrome designs.Of course, he put his bum against the seat back, and just slid down!!! "What was that noise ?" he said "Sounded like somebody f*rted!!" I nearly did when he got out again and saw this!!!

So today, took the back off the old seat( 2minutes)..unzipped her, peeled the cover back slowly, and revealed the first set of hog rings...now I know why they are called hog rings...they are pigs to get off!!

Cut them, very carefully, with a dremel..30 seconds a side:
Continued to peel the cover off...the two steel bars are only pivoted into the top fixing, and as you pull it up, they just pop out:

There are another line of four across the top..cut them off, and gently slip the cover off!!!Less than 20 minutes!!

The old cover is going to the local leather worker, who will make me perfect-fit leather covers for....200 euros a pair!! Will take him 3 days, and can have any colour I want, and the "hip" bolster will be made of extra strong leather, so it wonīt wear again!!
Donīt be scared to do it yourself!! Two spanners, a hex key, longnose pliers and a dremel..and you CAN DO IT!!

Just washed the "new" cover, and pulled it back over the old frame, to stop it shrinking(washed at 30 degrees...the water was BLACK!!)
Not going to use the hog rings...I have got some heavy duty zip ties, which won't rust, like the hog rings do.Put it back together in the morning...and hope for the best!!
No comments, so I guess this has been illustrated before..but I couldn't find it in "search", so apologies if that is the case, but hope it will help somebody else!!

The dremel is a luxury, side cutters work just fine. Good thread, Nick.

If you wanted to do a search, use "Leather" to search for people reupholstering their seats. Nice job by the way Nick. Here is a link I found: http://www.kitcarmag.com/howto/5533/
