So I bought one of these since im building a new engine for my car, I figure i want to keep oil at the pump and keep my investment protected. When I got it the holes where slightly too small. No prob I drill em and its fixed Then I put the tray on and the flywheel and turn the flywheel only to find that the connecting rod bolts hang on the tray. Ok so im a little frustrated. Now my question is this. Do I need this? I know i dont need it, but will it help protect then engine from oil starvation at high rpms? is it good to have? Should I ask for another that fits properly? Refund? Anyone else have this problem? Last thing I want is to have something like this kill my new engine.

Well i dont know for sure but...

Im near positive no one makes an aftermarket windage tray, but some of the gen2?/3's came with one.

I also have read that a modified SBC windage tray works with trimming....that might be what you have....I guess youll have to make it work.

From what i have read, you have to weld studs onto you main bearing bolts. i went threw this issue with my engine builder and we desided against it. But I did put a crank scraper in to keep the oil from going up the back of the oil pan and gain a couple HPs. I did a search and found a place that sells them for 60V6, i don't know anything about them though. Hope this helps

The windage tray is off of the 3.4 DOHC, its a factory piece. You could use the main bolts from it too.

I'm not sure what the problem is you're experiencing...

Are you using the factory crank main bolts to affix the windage tray from the Fiero Store?

I bought one just a couple of months ago, and it came with a whole set of bolts to use with the windage tray... didn't yours come with that?

It came with instructions too... it basically said that the only thing you need to do is modify the oil pan. There is a factory baffle in the oil pump, you need to cut away about 1/3rd of it. This is really really easy to do if you have a small cutoff wheel or a dremel.

Let me know if you need me to take pictures or something.

The bolts that were included in the kit basically were really long and had the studs already attached to them.

It's a really good piece to have... I've used one in an SBC and it definitely helps give you a little bit more mid and high rpm. Especially in the top end.

I typically (frequently) slightly overfill the oil in my car.. not by much, maybe half a quart or so...

This simply helps prevent the oil from slopping up on the side of the crank and causing resistance to it.

It's a great modification to have if you plan on building a motor that will have higher rpm power.
