Coils for my 3800. All the tips look good except for #5, which is very corroded looking. The spark plug for # 5 looked alright however..

Is there a quick easy way to test this thing?

I have seen quite a few of these coils still work fine even with that kind of corrosion...which by the way is usually caused by a spark plug wire end that is not totally sealed on the coil tower. Just clean it up with a wire brush and it should be ok.

To test, disconnect all plug wires from the coil pack and have an assistant crank the engine. A spark should jump across the towers of each coil, sequentially.

Replace the plug wires.

make sure you swab the coil terminals with dielectric grease. coat the terminal on the coil and put a bit into the boot as well.

If the car was running ok then the coil is likely ok. That looks to use the same coils as the DIS L4 what is covered in my cave.
