I am removing my engine and i will be installing one of FieroX's firewall heat shields. To make it simple and to remove electrical clutter in the engine bay i want to push the main connector at the firewall through. I also see beside the big square connector there is another big square connector and its has practically the other half of the electrical on it. Do i push both connectors through the firewall. Im just affraid of doing something wrong. Could somebody tell me what to disconnect and what not to disconnect. I give +'s to everybody that helps me out. Thanks Daniel

You want to take the big bunch of wires on the LEFT through the firewall. Disconnect anything that is on the motor that is included in this bunch of wires and pull it through to the interior of the car. The bunch of wires on the left (is important), but shouldnt need to be removed, and usually doesnt need to be removed. It will be alot easier to see what you have to do once the motor is out - just DONT cut anything! I am not familiar with FieroX's firewall heat shield though.
The large connector over by the battery is actually two different halves held together. When you remove the screw and pull the large connector out you then separate the two halves. One half is the engine harness and stays with the engine.
Okay everybody i have a rough understanding of the electrical. Please bear with me because im only 16 and this is my first engine removal. I thought that on the big square connector on the firewall, you disconnect it at the computer and then push it through into the engine bay and then you lay the wiring over the top of the engine. I have already disconnected all grounds, fuel, water, drained all oil, disconnected throttle cable, cruise control cable, shift cables, vacume lines. So no worries there, its just this damn electrical thats scaring me Thanks for the help and keep the advice coming. A + for all that have helped.

You will also need to disconnect a connector below the ECM it is a dual 14 to 16 pin connector (I can't remember which). They can sometimes be quite fragile so take car when pulling it apart. The diagonstic terminal will also need unbolted from the center console skeleton. I seem to recall a ground that will also be required to be removed inside the car just to the right (passenger side) and below the computer on the center tunnel. If you havent figured it out, to slide the large wire bundle from the computer through the firewall you need to remove a large clip from the inside of the car. Just slide it to the drivers side (I think) and it will be loose.

I have to quote myself on this one. Sorry, Yes, you pull the wires through the firewall INTO THE ENGINE BAY and drape over the engine. Also, there are the two relays on the driverside of the car in the engine bay - unscrew the 7mm bolts that hold that on and drape over the engine.
Indiana_resto_guy, thanks for telling me about the ground inside the car. I didnt know you have to unbolt the diagnostic port too. Now that i know how to disconnect the wires from the ECM i probably wont break anything now A + to you for the help. Anybody else that could give me some advice. Fastfieros, PBJ, jelly, you all have done alot of electrical work because of the engine swaps.
somebody else must know something else about this electrical.
You got it out yet? I have reread everything here and there are also some HOT (battery + voltage) at a junction block behind C-500 (the one JazzMan refered to) that need disconnected as well. Drop it slow and KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN ! ! Don't forget the throtle cable.

That is pretty much all you need to disconnect. Just remember to drop it slowly while watching for anything still connected (a/c lines?).
Are you having a problem? Have questions about something in particular? Dont be scared, just go for it. If you break it, usually it can be fixed / replaced.....
Allright well i cant work on the car until saturday because of a crazy work schedule. I get out of school at 2:45 and then i have to be at work by 3:00 and i am usually of work by 7.00 so that leaves me only a couple of hours everyday. But on saturday i work on the car 9:00am to 6:00pm so ill probably get the motor out and start cleaning up the engine bay. ill be sure to get a shot of me standing in the engine compartment after the motor is out Thanks for all the help and ill be sure to keep my eyes open and go slow.
