I never realized that in the two years I had it for that it does not have a rear sway bar. Is that an option on fiero's? If not do I need it? and could this explain my severe understeer problem?

84-87 did not come with a rear sway bar, not even as an option. Yes it will greatly improve handling. We did it a couple of years ago and could not believe the difference. We used a frt bar on the rear. Check out fierosecrets and search. http://www.fierosails.com/fierosecrets.html

1984 thru 1987 AND 1988 4-cyl cars did not have rear sway bars.
Only the 1988 GT and 1988 Formula had rear sway bars.

Where is the cheapes place to buy poly ure. mounts so I can switch the front to the rear and uprgrade the front? If I do this modification can I at a later time uprgrade the rear sway bar to another aftermarket one identical to the front aftermarket one?

I've got a rear sway on my V8, but no rear sway on my 6 cyl. IMHO, rear sway is a necessity on a V8 conversion but something you might want to think about on a stock Fiero. The Fiero has this wonderfull thing called understeer. Yes it feels wierd when you corner hard, but it can be an early warning signal that you are pushing the limits in the corner. If you take out the understeer, the first thing you may feel is the back end letting go. Really, it's your choice on how you want to set the car up. Definately helps handling, but you need to be aware of the +'s and -'s of this choice.

I am not going to be doing any hard core racing. But I am adding intrax lowering springs and kyb gas a justs in the front and Gr2 struts in the back. I just want to add something else that will help the car handle like a slot car. I love to drive a car will realy stiff handling so I can feel the road. Thats why I went with KYB (kill your back) shocks and struts. I also Got a darrel morse strut tower brace kit.

Some people get sick of the feel of the road, but I just call it a deep tissue massage

thanks alot guys

PS: what If I buy two aftermarket front sway bars, will the aftermarket version still beable to put on back(can I put one on the front and one on the back)?

Just get a slightly larger bar for the front and use the old front bar on the rear. Yes, I know there'll be arguments on bar sizes and locations.

You can get Energy Suspension (or other brands) links and mounts at any speed shop.

As mentioned the understeer is there as a warning for the average driver. You should be prepared to test effects of any mods in a vacant area prior to 'indy' driving on the street. Isn't indy driving just going in a circle? The thrill of spinning round to suddenly see where you just came from, should be a private thing.

I just recently finished putting a stock front sway bar on the back. I am so loving the new feel of the car. The rear suspension does seem stiffer now because of it. and, boy oh boy does that car stay flat. I spent the weekend trying to find excuses to go thru the I-94 / I-696 interchange, just so I could whale thru the wide curves. feels like I'm driving a slot car.

Can I use this rear aftermarktet sway bar even though mine is not an 88

Or is that an aftermarket front sway bar just located to the rear?

just guessing - havent actually seen it - but here I go anyways...
88's do the sway bar differently. and better. the bar is mount above the cradle, and connects on the struts instead of the a-arms.

Fierostore does sell aftermarket front and rear bars for the Fiero. If you order anything from them rememeber that they give a 10% discount on all non GM items for Fiero club members. They consider Pennocks a club.

First, I know absolutely nothing about suspension, anti sway bars or things like that. Well i know what the concept is with sway bars , but that is about it. So if I sound stupid or say anything stupid, slap me and I'll shut up...hehe

Now How come the 88's have the sway bars on the top of the struts and the pre 88's have them below?
If I added a sway bar to the top on my 87' would it not make any difference?
And what if I had sway bars on the top and the bottoms, front and back? Would that be overkill?

there is no reason to have multiple sway bars as apposed to a single thicker sway bar

the pre-88's have it below because its easier for routing sine they were not designed ot have one..

you can mount one on top of a pre-88 cradle but generally requires custom fabrication and a non-stock exhaust

doesnt matter. higher seems like a better way to go, but not for how it works, but for being out of the way. mine is mounted on the bottom, and now I cant jack the car by the rear of the cradle. bar diameter & arm length are factors in how well a sway bar works. and you DO NOT want a sway bar that works 100%. having a rear sway bar really stiffens up the rear. it seems to make the springs twice as stiff when hitting bumps & holes.
