I'm just curious to see if anybody has added the electric trunk release to a Fiero that did not originally have one. I have a few questions for those that have.

1. Besides getting the release motor and the switch, was there anything else that was needed?
2. Are all the connections for it alredy there or am I going to need to wire it all up myself?

This is a project that I think I might attempt but I'm not sure yet. Just wanting a little imput.
Thanks!

I believe there is a relay under the dash as well.

It has been done. Not by myself as I already have it in my car. I think you need a relay and you can wire it into the fuse box if Im not mistaken. Im sure someone who knows will chime in, meanwhile here is a free bump for you.

I did this upgrade a couple years ago and it took all of 15 minutes from start to finish. Basically all you need is a switch and switchplate for the dash, a trunk release relay (horn relay works also and is heavier duty), trunk lid wiring that runs through the trunk itself, and the release solenoid.

Basically all the wiring is present except the additional wire running through the trunk lid that attaches to the solenoid. In that event you have a couple options, the easiest being to replace the harness with one from a donor that has the solenoid wire, or remove your current harness and add an extra wire. Just make sure you get the switch, switchplate, solenoid and attaching screw, or whole latch if you prefer, relay, and trunk harness (optional but recommended). I have to say that out of all the upgrade projects I've taken on this was by far the easiest.

84 are different and do not use a relay.
it is a standard GM horn relay used for the last 30 years.

What needs to be done depends significantly on what year model Fiero you have. Later models are much easier.

This was actually a dealer installed accessory, the only dealer installed accessory for Fieros. The main wiring is already there just need the parts mentioned above. There's a TSB on this, if I can find it I will post it here.
