Well I finally fixed my ground short and got my car running and dumb me locked the keys in the door. The keys are in the ignition and I can almost reach them with a coat hanger. I also tried pulling the door handle with the hanger, but the door still wouldn't open. Will the inside door handle unlock the door if I can get the hanger to pull it? I am going to try and un-latch the sunroof later this morning and see if I can get in that way. Any tips would be great.

Thanks Ken

Hey I did this yesterday! Its not hard to get in. First get your fingers between the window and weatherstrip at the top. Push down and pry out the window, (its seems to come out about a inch without fear of breaking). Put a object between the window and weatherstrip so it stays opens. Next get a wooden dowl or broom stick handle and thread a wood screw in on the side at the end and let it stick out about a inch so it looks like this ____________| Then stick the stick through the opening in the the window, and push the lock foward with the screw. Its works and wont hurt your car.

thats why yo u need to have your power windows powered up at all times, (jump the power at the fuse pannel with the door lock fuse)
then just stick a stick or like ive used a yard stick and tap the window switch and Volia....

full time power windows come in real handy its a mod everyone should do,

just jump one side of the power lock fuse to one side of the power window fuse
it wont cause any problems because you dont draw current from the same circuit at the same time,
its a handy mod!!!

one of my favorite feww mods that only consists of 3" of wire with a male spade connector on each end

If your sunroof is open, then have someone with small hands reach in and depress the two buttons to
un do the sunroof, and your in. i locked myself out at a gas station, and this got me in the car quick...

I locked mine in at school one day and the sunroof was open so I did the same thing and it worked great.

Well I finally got in from the sunroof, but ended up breaking the latch, so I will have to get that replaced soon as the sunroof now can't lock. O well at least I was able to get in and make copies of the keys so this won't happen again. Thanks again everyone.

Thanks Ken

One thing you could do is keep a spare door key in you'r wallet so that you can get into the car.

I was stupid and locked my keys in once as well.....Fortunately I have a sunroof (latch closed of course) and just needed a coat hanger to pull the latch open. The nice thing about using a coat hanger on the latch is that you will usually bend the hanger before anything breaks, but it's rigid enough to pop the latch without bending too much.

Oh hell, I've locked my keys in my blue 87GT 4 times in a month once... School stress? Maybe.

The sunroof makes it almost too easy to get in. You need a wire coathanger - straigten it all the way out, put a small hook on one side and a L handle on the other. Reach it in through the window seal and bend and maneuver the hook untill you can flip the latch on your sunroof. Pull the sunroof up (now unlocked), squeeze your fingers in and pop the release buttons. Set the sunroof somewhere very carefully, lean into the car and unlock/remove keys. Simple!

I did this once to my car in the school parking lot, and there was this girl parked next to me (and she was really hot too). So here I come marching out with a coathanger and deftly break into my car like I've done it several times before (well... I have). Took less than a minute. You shoulda seen the look on her face when I looked over and smiled, it was priceless.

No sunroof? It's also possible to get to the lock lever, believe it or not. On my sisters old Celica, you could stick the hook tool in, and pull the lock towards you to open in under 15 seconds. On the Fiero, you have to pull the lock towards the nose of the car! It sucks, but if you're desparate enough to get in your car and have the manual dexterity, it can be done in under 15 min. My silver car has no sunroof, so this has been my only option a couple of times.

I seriously considered attatching a coathanger to the underframe of my silver car once, just in case...

I locked the keys in my 84 Fiero at my old work one day. The RCMP (police) were having a BBQ for a charity, operated by RCMP members, and I was parked on the lane directly infront of where they were.

I walked to my parents store 3 blocks away, and me and my dad parked near, took out the coathanger, and worked at my car for about 20 minutes, I got in, drove by, right infront of them, and my dad got into his car and drove off. I was suprized nobody walked up and asked? My car has an aftermarket sunroof with a strong latch so I couldnt use that.

I broke into my First Fiero with a thermos bottle and the car's radio antennae.
1985 Downtown Wash DC- 4th of July Fireworks ended- ran back to the car to beat the traffic - first date with a girl with legs that went from here to eternity and lips that could- oops! sorry about that-
Anyway I had locked the keys in the car and if I didn't get started, I'd be sittin' in traffic for a couple hours. I resigned myself that I was going to bust the window. Desperation move- Pulled the wondow away from the frame far enough to create a gap- took the carry strap from the thermos and used the car antennae to loop it around the window crank. Opened it just enough to reach in.

Once I locked my keys... IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT!!
I was doing something to the engine, and I have a pcoket knife on my keychain and i used that to strip a wire or something and then put the keys down when I was done,,,,ya you guessed it, I closed the lid and was stuck... I had to drill the lock out and then use a screwdriver to open it until i could get three new locks and keys from a junkyard and replace them all...

Ditto. Fishing a spare key out of your wallet is alot easier than breaking into a car.

Three things:
1.
Get a spare door key made.

2. Stick it in yer wallet.

3. Have Cliff make this thread go away. (it's bad enough people steal our Fieros, these "Help - I locked my keys in my car" threads don't help... )

Not that any half-witted thief would hafta come here in order to steal a car.
(but at least I bumped it, so more can see it)

How about hiding a button for the power locks outside the car where only you know where it is?
