i have an 88 formula fiero, i think its the turbo hydramatic 125C, but anyway it had 60,375 miles on it now, the last service (and i dont know what kind of service) was at 20,100 miles, but any way i want to put a shift kit in it, theres one at the fiero store for like 48$, but ive heard bad things on it and that there is a better/cheaper one out there somewhere, but i was wondering, if i fill it up with type F fluid (ford) will it shift as hard as it would with a shift kit??, how many quorts to fill it up?? thats if i drop the pan., il need all the info i can get here, im pretty machanically inclined.but......its an auto!! lol what can i say. any help is aprieciated.. oh btw i hate dextron OR mercon trans fluid, is there a way around this???? whats recomended by you, not what the book sais, but i want to know what your personal experience sais.

Well, Fords require type F as well as some chrysler products. All GM products that I'm aware of require Dextron III. Use Type F if you want to change the tranny out.

THATS IT! mr. shift!! thats what i was hearing good crap about.. so when esactly are you going to install this???, id like to here your steps in doing so, but ima thinkin that in the next week or so ima do mine.
if you do a search on here, one posted the complete step by step process of installing the shift kit yourself. But I would only attempt it if you know your way around cars. Not hard to do, but I have seen some people screw up things on thier vehicles bad because they 'think' they know how to do things.

I got a shift kit from the Fiero store. Frankly, it's no walk in the park to install. Drilling, grinding down parts, and spring replacements in the trans innards. Also, I had trouble with understanding the directions. Since I was doing an engine swap at the time, I did not want to add another variable to the "foul up" list and did not install it. Maybe later when the trans needs work.
hmmmm.. kinda getting second thoughts, being my only form of transpertation (i refuse to drive my van), i dont want to screw it up, i was able to replace both head gaskets flawlessly, but a transmittion is a world of a different situation, i hate trannies! and aint afraid to admit that i have no clue at all on how to service them!, other that the "T Tech" were perform at valvoline., which is just a drain/flush/fill for 99$ (rip off) we dont even drop the pan to change filter. lol, il look up more on this process, i want hard shifts, like barking the tires everytime it shifts! that aint happeing tho...

If you're not comfortable with disassembling the transmission valve body (the part with all the springs and little balls) then don't attempt to install this kit. It's not that hard but it will take more than an afternoon so you'll be without a car. The kit from the FieroStore is a knock off of a TRANS-GO. http://www.bulkpart.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=MDITP&Category_Code=125sk is where you can get the real thing along with rebuild kits and such. I did mine on the bench during a rebuild and it wasn't that hard. You can do this with the trans installed in the car but it's a little more complicated and you can't perform all the changes they recommend. One problem with doing it in the car is keeping everything clean enough...you don't want to get any dirt in the trans.
hmm, i dont think im going to do it, trannies arent my thing, but man i want the hard shifts! are you guys suuuure that type F fluid will screw the fiero;s trans up??? i personally dont think it will, but i dont know for sure., mabey half type F and half other??????
