Just curious and felt it was more of a tech question that general chat.

Has anyone swapped the stock slush box for a newer 4spd auto and retained the stock engine, either 2.5 or 2.8?

If so how much difference did you notice in gas mileage and performance?

I'm sure one of the questions is why not go with a newer engine if your going with the newer tran, but I just wondered if it had been done and what the end result was.

Any thoughts on the subject?

(Not anything I am looking at in the near future but something that just crossed my mind)

I have also thought about doing this in the past and came across these 2 web pages that are very informative:

I'm considering it as well.
The really cool thing is that if you can get one with a 3.33 final drive gearset, then add the 33/37 tooth sprockets, you can end up with a 3.73 overall ratio. Should make for good launches at the dragstrip, and still get better gas mileage than the 125C, because of the overdrive.

Got mine on the 3.4. 3:33 ratio 4t60 out of a 90 Reagle. I used both of the sites mentioned above, no problems so far. The next project is to wire up the tcc with the harness shown in the space coast site. So far I have about $300.00 in it

Anybody here ever had one of these things apart? How difficult is it to get to the chain and sprockets to change them out?
It looks like the valve body (and I don't know what all else) has to be removed.
Is this something that the average "weekend wrench" could handle? Does it require special tools?
I'd really like to do this, but if I can't do it myself I can't see paying someone else many hundreds of dollars to do it for me.
