Heres the story,,,

My fan started getting "loose" a while ago and rubbing on the outside. One day it instantly quit working while my heater was on and my volts went to zero. I turned my heater off and my volts returned to normal. I can now use my heater with the volts not going crazy but the fan doesn't turn on.

Here is my problem,

I got a "new" fan today but it does not work, I checked every fuze in the car and they are all good. What happened? Could have I fried a wire? Could my fan be no good? Help!!!!!

Thanks in advance,
G.

Did you test your 'new' fan by putting 12 volts across it to see if it would run? Does it operate i n any of the low, med, high settings? The motor circuit is such that a fuse feeds the motor with less than 12 volts when in the low and med. settings. When put in high, a fusible link feeds the motor with 12 volts thru a high speed relay (ie the heater fuse circuit is not in play here other than this fused circuit pulls in the high speed blower relay). The only common items that would keep the motor from running under any setting would be the 'new' motor, the blower switch in the dash, or there is a break in the black wire going from the motor to 'ground'. One way of checking the later is with the wiper switch. It shares the ground circuit with the fan motor. So if wiper doesn't work, you've got an open in that black ground circuit. One last item: check to see that you have 12 volts on the brown wire connecting to the blower switch. No 12 volts here with the key in 'run' means a bad fuse or a break in the brown wire from the fuse.

The fan kicks on at about 230 degrees or you could try turning on the AC to kick the fan on.If you removed your thirmistat,it may not come on at all (winter time here).

Which fan? The radiator fan or the heater blower fan?

Ok Radiator fan, check the relay if the fan does not come on with the A/C on.
Fuse link "A" should be good since the car still runs.
