I have read some threads that mention draining all the fluids. I understand the coolant, but the engine oil when I am only dropping the cradle to fix the clutch?

Thanks,

Steve

Yea, drain the oil before pulling the motor, otherwise you'll probably forget the pan's full of oil the first time you flip the motor on the stand or pull the pan and make a big mess.

I never do but it would reduce the weight of the engine a little.

I learned the hard way to make sure to drain ALL fluids from the motor AND TRANSMISSION before you remove it from the car.

I got Dexron all over the damn driveway when I took the motor and trans off the cradle. I am NEVER making that mistake again.

The time you save may be your own.

Just make sure to fill everything back up when you put it all back in...

That's the point in time where, if married, you are rushing around to clean up the mess before your better half has the opportunity to never let you live down what he or she already told you was going to happen... and will remind you.. again and again and again.

If you pull the axles to get the tranny loose you'll need to drain it first, the fluid level is above the axle level in all the trannies.

If you're just changing the clutch, there's not need to drain the engine oil.
You will have to drain the transmission, though.

I've done several Fiero clutches and never had to drain the engine oil.
