I went to start my car this morning, and the starter just started making a werrring noise and continued until I opened the trunk and disconected the battery. Even turning off the car didn't help? Any thoughts?

Thanks
Matt

Are you sure it's the starter moter?A stripped headlight motor gear will do the same thing. If it is the starter, buy a new/remanufactured one...

The noise was definately coming from the trunk area.
If it is the starter, why would it not turn off, when I turned the car off?

I think there's a sensor (maybe oil press) that can go bad and hang your fuel pump relay? I may be wrong, which is OK since it will draw a quick corretion from somebody.

at the time of starting, did you lose power to the car?
maybe check your grounding cable is secure at the decklid hinge on the right of the engine to the engine lifting point where it meets the negative cable from the battery.

this happened to me a few months back when the car's starting up was tempremental ,eventually leading up to no power at all when the grounding cable must have broken off clean

maybe

If it's a definite starter noise then my bet is stuck solenoid.

my starter went up in smoke when it kept running...before I could disconnect the battery. Shutting down the engine didnt work. Looked like the starter was shorting inside so it kept running...In my case the windings failed. Look into our aging starters and yoú'l find cracked insulation. At a certain point it is better to get a new one than keep rebuilding. Hope this helps, it looks like the same problem....
