i have a huge "terrry fisher" dealer badge on the back lid of my fiero, its not something you want to see on such a rare car, its like putting a "NO FEAR" sticker on the bumper of a mc.laren F1, how do i remove it? ive heard of using fishing string, dental floss, but how to remove the black spongy gluey left over crap? and not hurt the paint.

If you haven't taken the decal off yet, warm it with a blow dryer.

If you have taken the decal off...uh...

Bug and tar remover?

There's some stuff, I can't remember what it's called, that is great for removing "sticker goo", and it's orange-based so it shouldn't harm the paint...but I can't remember what the hell it's called... Only that you can buy it at a supermarket.

I hope that helps.

I have used Goof Off to get that foam-backed adhesive off, as well as bumper stickers, decals, and window tint. You can pick it up most anywhere, and it is handy to keep around the house.

As Ed said above, if you haven't already tried to remove it, heat it with a hair dryer. The heat will soften the glue, and you can carefully pull it off the car. If you HAVE tried to remove it, and left the black, sticky adhesive, you can get a can of 3M General Adhesive Remover from an auto parts store. It will soften up the adhesive without harming the paint. I've used it several times, with excellent results.

Try mineral spirits. Cheap and will not damage your paint.

Oh, man! That is just wrong! I was ticked off enough when the dealer I bought mine from back in the day glued one on. Since then I have specifically instructed dealers not to put any of that junk on new cars I purchased. They will have to settle for my word-of-mouth if they expect me to advertise for them.

If you use a solvent of some type, (adhesive remover, mineral spirits, etc.), don't forget to give that area a new coat of wax, as those products will strip the wax off the paint. They will do no harm, though, as stated above. You should have good luck with the 3M product.

I like naptha (lighter fluid, like a Zippo uses) as it does the job without hurting many surfaces. As stated warm the sticker , then flood the top edge with naptha, and gently pry. Once it starts, then really flood, so it breaks the adhesive bond as you peel it off. If it is in pieces I wet a paper towel with naptha and rub it off.

This works everytime:
1) Clean area of any dirt etc. around the badge.
2) Heat area by using hair dryer.
3) Using dental floss gently cut the adhesive on the back of the badge. Use the same technique as when flossing your teeth. Go slow, the cutting action will proceed based on how warm the adhesive is.

I use a citrus product at work marketed under Desolvit brand. It won't hurt most things including plastic.

Goo Gone brand Sticker Lifter works ok.

Goof Off, sold in a small metal can will eat many plastics.

If this is a plastic/mylar decal you have to work the off carefully and careful use of a hair dryer can help that. At least you need to lift the top edge and let the adhesive solvent get in there.

Many of the hard plastic ones are two sided taped on. you need to work thru the tape parallel to the car surfce and then you treat the left over tape like a decal. These can be a huge pain.

3M makes a wheel that goes in a drill for lifting decals off cars. It's fairly expensive for one time with a relatively small decal.

I have a rubber wheel made by 3M just for taking off the residue from emblems and moldings that you just put in a drill ($5). I used to do it by just rubbing a finger across it in one direction starting at one end. It just sort of rolls up, but if you do a lot, you will get a sore finger

My friend bought a brand new fully loaded F150 4X4 last year. He picked out the color, interior, wheels, etc. He had to wait for them to order it and when it came in, they called him to come pick it up. He gets there and they had installed one of their dealer badges on the rear. It was screwed in to the tailgate.

He is pretty picky and wouldn't accept the truck until they replaced the tailgate with another one without the badge. Needless to say the salesman appeared very pissed. They did what he wanted though. At first I thought he was being a bit rediculous, but now I can understand. If I paid $30,000 for a new vehicle I wouldn't want some ugly dealer badge bolted to the body either.

I ordered a new Shelby Mustang years ago. I ordered the salesman to call soon as it came in. I would not accept it with any dealer stickers/ emblems. I even told them NOT to wash it, I ordered it black. I didnt want to have to polish out a mess of cleaning brush scratches. When it DID come, they followed my instructions and I got it right off the truck, mud and all.

Dude, don't use Goof Off! It will damage your paint! You will want to use something citrus based like Goo Gone.

Dave

I don't blame him. That's just ASKING for rust!

Like many other people here, I also refuse to accept delivery of a car with stickers on it and I sure as SHOOTIN' am not going to accept delivery of a car with dealer-supplied BODY HOLES.

OTOH if the dealership puts license plate frames on with their name and logo I don't care about that and I'll usually leave them on, at least for a little while.

Ogre jogged my memory--DeSolvIt. That's the stuff I was thinking of.

i havent yet taken off the badge, i hope like hell that it isnt bolted on!!! i fing sh%t my pants!!, il try to heat it while using dental floss, then the left overs...il figure it out, ive used a # of the products mentioned above, and one that stuck out was the rubber wheel that goes on a drill, my race van wad wood trim all the way down both sides (chrysler what can i say), but i used a propane torch to get the wood grain off, then a rubber disk, it worked perfectly till it started chunking lil pieces of the rubber thing, then it ate paint right down to the metal!, just like that i had a huge ass paint missing spot, i was going fast, so you could just imagin. but il try anything to get this off lol, its like 3 times the size as the huge fiero decal on the pass side of the trunk lid! grr!!

the story behind this (kinda funny) if your religous dont read., but for ever ive hated thoes damn "jesus fishes" you see on cars, i hate them with a passion!!!, i always joked with my friends that when i finally get my perfect fiero that itl have a jesus fish on it, probly bolted down, .... well i wasnt far off, my dealer badge sais "terry FISHer, lol i hate it!,

i also hate thoes stupid "suport our troops" magnetic ribbons you see 9 plastered on a car at ounce, i wont even go there, but yeah! hate it!, 1 is enough!!! you dont have to "out do" your neighbor!

When you do get it off, please take it to the offending dealership. walk in like you own the place, ask for the manager. Tell him how long you spent getting it off your car, tell him you will never buy anything from them, smile and hand it to him.

Also, I think people with those damn fishes on their cars should be stabbed in the face. I have always wanted to make one for my car, but with a bigass devil fish chasing it. The only thing I see while driving that Pisses me off more is the giant barn-tin cross I pass on the way to St. Louis. I'm not against religion. I am against anyone forcing their beliefs on others.

That would be hard to do since Terry Fisher is doing 15 to 20 at Club Fed for bank and wire fraud.....It seens that the"Terry Fisher" family of dealerships was built on loans that were not exactly legal.....I remember when they opened the dealership in St.Pete, they advertised the crap out of it because they built a track out behind it for test drives....It was like 3 weeks later the Feds arrested him.......Grand Opening.....Grand Closing.....It's a Behlmann's CarNection used car dealership now.....

What people do to their property is nobody's business but their own. Putting a cross on ones property is no worse than putting a football teams flag in their yard. And as for the fish, its not your car and they are not saying anything to you except maybe that they believe in God. Is it ok to have the little Calvin pissing on a Chevy emble stuck to a Ford? Get over yourself. Stab yourself in the face if you can't stand it.

Now a dealer making money off selling a car to you and expecting you to do free advertising on what is now YOUR property is rediculous. Luckily, the badges that have been slapped on my cars have come of clean with heat and nothing else.

As I said, I am not against religion. I am catholic, and I go to mass every sunday. What offends me is people who think that they are somehow better than everyone else because they are a christian, and force this view on others. There are a lot of religions out there. I happen to be a christian. That does not make me better than anyone else. I feel just as strongly about people putting extreemist political statements on their bumpers. I saw a bumper sticker with a quote from Adolf Hitler the other day. I happened to be ranting in response to the mention of a Icthis on a car, so, I ranted about militant christians. You just, by the way, put yourself in that group.

Yeah... using an eraser like that is a lot like using a clay bar... except cheaper. That trick works for a lot of surface blemishes... a clay bar is a lot better though. Just remember that if you do use any stripping chemical to rewax the area that was exposed.

I am a militant Christian.... How did my reply put me there? I just suggested turning your hate on yourself...

If some one went and put a fish on your car without your permission, that would barely be a start to forcing it on you. My point is that no one is complaining about the Darwin fish with legs... so why are you complaining about a fake plasti-chrome fish on someone elses property. How do you have any idea what having a religion forced on you feels like? All I said was that people in this country are free to express themselves. Thats it... you went and called me a militant Christian because I mentioned something about freedom of expression and/or religion. That makes sense. I would have said the same thing if you had said 'all those Green Bay Packers fans with their Packers bumper stickers should be stabbed in the face.'

I agree with 88 Formula. This thread is not about religion, its about dealers that think that they are doing you a favor by putting their logo on your car. If you want to continue this do it by PM or take it to the off topic forum.

I find WD40 works real well when allowed to soak in... And my story is...
My brother goes to pick up his brand new (high-end) Audi... He's looking it over with the salesman and says, "How much you going to pay me?" and the salesman, not having a clue, says "What"? My brother explains to him that he(salesman) will have to pay for the dealer's advertising!!!! Salesman was pissed but they removed it in a hurry! All I can say is he was lucky it wasn't screwed on!

I've bought three cars from the same dealer (1 Maxima for my daughter and 2 Mercedes in the past 3 years.) When I bought the Maxima, they stuck a dealer ID on the back and I said "Oh, well", drove away and snatched it off at home. But when I bought the first MB, I told them that unless they wanted me to take my money for a walk, don't stick anything on the car....not even a licence plate frame.

If someone wants to know where I bought it, they're welcome to ask me.
